Riverside and Troy Split Season Openers

The Troy Trojans and Riverside Cyclones split their doubleheader on Friday night as the basketball season is now underway. 

Girls: Riverside 52, Troy 46

This game was competitive from the tip as both teams were able to find success offensively in the first half. 

The game was tied 9-9 in the first quarter and then Riverside closed the quarter on an 8-0 run and led 17-9. 

The Trojans would outscore Riverside 11-8 in the second quarter and trailed 25-20 at halftime. Both teams would score 12 points in the third quarter before the Cyclones were able to hold off the Trojans late to get the win. 

Riverside's Taylor Weishaar was our KNZA Player of the Game as she finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Halle Studer added nine points while Abby O'Grady and Sophie Juhl each added seven apiece. 

Troy was led by freshman Harper Whetstine with 20 points including four three's. Paityn Engemann added 14 points with 13 of those in the second half. 

Boys: Riverside 47, #6 1A-I Troy 54

The Trojans got off to a slow start in this game but was able to control the pace and force a lot of turnovers in the second half to get the win. 

Riverside jumped out to an early lead and led 9-7 at the end of the first quarter. Troy would control the pace in the second quarter and outscored the Cyclones 13-6 to lead 20-15 at halftime. 

Troy's defense would force 27 turnovers including 18 in the second half which proved to be a key difference in the game. 

Reagan Hartman led Troy and was clutch down the stretch as he finished with 15 points and five rebounds which earned him Player of the Game. 

Seth Judd added 14 points including knocking down three 3's in the third quarter. 

Riverside was led by Percy Duncan as he posted a game high 19 points and five rebounds. Todrick Duncan added 13 points and 14 rebounds.
