Regional Cross Country Headlines

The Regional Cross Country Meets across Kansas took place over the weekend. Here are some of the notable headlines from Regional's and area teams that will be competing at State Meets. 

Class 1A 

The Doniphan West and Clifton Clyde girls finished second and third place at the Washington County Regional Meet and will compete at the State Meet in Wamego. Doniphan West was led by Claire Cole who finished second overall while Rylan Florence finished in 11th place. Clifton Clyde was led by Elisa Sorell who finished ninth. Notable top 10 finishes included Washington County's McKenzie Baker who finished fifth, Meleah Talley of Centralia finished seventh, Linn's Claire Beikmann finished eighth, and Troy's Gracie Grable finished 10th. 

The Axtell boys will compete at the State Meet after placing third behind St. Johns-Tipton and Osborne. Grady Buessing won the individual title while Gavin Shaughnessy finished in sixth place. Wetmore's Kristopher Fulkerson finished in eighth place. 

Class 2A 

The Oskaloosa girls finished in third place behind Sacred Heart and Wabaunsee at the Wabaunsee Regional Meet and will compete at the State Meet. Oskaloosa's top runners were Holly Thacher finished in 11th place while Taylor Peterson finished in 14th. Valley Falls had a top-10 finish with Amelia Brown finishing ninth. 

The Jefferson County North boys won the Wabaunsee Regional Meet and will be competing at the State Meet. Lucas Meredith led the Chargers by finishing in eighth place while Isaac Kane finished in 10th place. McLouth's Henry Cloyd finished in fourth place while his teammate Dylan Stemmons finished in seventh place. 

Class 3A

The Hiawatha boys won the 3A Regional Meet at Riley County. Camden Bachman led the Redhawks with a third place finish. Jordan Hodge finished in sixth place Felix McCartney finished in 10th place. Marysville and Nemaha Central finished second and third place respectively. Silas Miller of Marysville won the Regional Title while Nemaha Central's John Langill finished runner-up. Other notable top-10 finishes included Charlie Lukert of Sabetha in fourth place, Nathan Miller of Marysville in fifth, and Kalvin Evans of Sabetha finished in ninth place. 

Riley County, Minneapolis, and Heritage Christian were the top three teams on the girls side. Notable finishes included Nemaha Central's Maddy Mosteller finished third overall while Cheyenne Hittle of Royal Valley finished in eighth place. Marysville had a top-10 finish from Brynn O'Neil who finished in ninth place. 

Class 4A

Holton's Jacob Warner finished seventh place at the Baldwin Regional while Atchison's Christopher Tschauder finished in eighth place. 


State Information: 

- 1A, 2A, and 4A State Meets will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29th at Wamego Country Club in Wamego. 

- 3A, 5A, and 6A State Meets will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29th at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence.
