Five Area Squads Heading to State Volleyball Tournaments

The 2022 Volleyball season is down to the State Tournaments which will be on Friday and Saturday across Kansas. 

Five Area teams won their respective Sub-State Tournaments and will compete this weekend.

1A-II: Hanover will look to repeat as State Champs as they won their Sub-State with straight set wins over Axtell and Linn. The Wildcats will be the 3-seed in Emporia at 33-5. Pool play matches on Friday will be against South Central (10:00 AM), Wheatland/Grinnell (12:00 PM), and Attica (3:00 PM). 

1A-I: Doniphan West will be competing at the State Tourney this weekend after winning the Sub-State Tourney at Centralia. They were the top seed and had a bye and were able to knock off Onaga and Centralia to earn their spot in Dodge City. Doniphan West will have pool play matches on Friday against Pretty Prairie (3:30 PM), Sylvan-Lucas (6:30 PM), and St. Francis (7:30 PM). The Mustangs are the 6-seed with a record of 34-5. 

2A: Two area teams will be competing at the 2A State Tourney in Dodge City as Jefferson County North and Valley Heights won their Saturday Sub-State Tournaments. The Chargers won their Sub-State at home with wins over Riverside, Pleasant Ridge, and Jackson Heights. Valley Heights won the St. Marys Sub-State with wins over Republic County, St. Marys, and Maranatha. Pool Play matches on Friday for JCN will be against Meade (8:30 AM), Hillsboro (11:30 AM), and St. Marys-Colgan (12:30 PM). Valley Heights will have pool play matches against Smith Center (9:30 AM), Inman (10:30 AM), and Garden Plain (12:30 PM). 

3A: The Nemaha Central Thunder will head to Hutchison as the top seed and top ranked team after they dispatched their opponents at Sub-State on their home court. The Thunder cruised past Bishop Ward, Maur Hill-Mount Academy, and Royal Valley to advance. Nemaha Central is the number one seed with a record of 42-1. Pool play matches on Friday will be against Smoky Valley (4:30 PM), Beloit (6:30 PM), and Cheney (8:30 PM). 

Top two teams in each pool will advance to Saturday's Semi-Finals & Finals. Saturday Semi-Finals will begin at 1:00 PM with the Consolation and Title Games following 25 minutes after the last semi-final match concludes.
