High School Football Rankings Come Out Ahead of Week 7 Action

With just two weeks left in the high school football regular season, we are starting to see the cream rise at all levels. Here is a look at the rankings ahead of Week 7 action this Friday.

In Class 3A, Holton leapfrogged Wichita Collegiate to claim the number three spot in the KPreps poll after the Spartans fell to #1 Andale last week. Holton defeated two-time defending 2A champion Rossville on the road 48-17. Next up for the Wildcats will be a tough home test against #2 Topeka Hayden who come into this Friday’s game unbeaten 6-0. You can listen to this game on KNZA 103.9 FM. 

Nemaha Central remains ranked number two in Class 2A, according to Kpreps. They easily defeated Minneapolis 56-0 to improve to 6-0. The Thunder are also first in the KSHSAA Covered rankings. Up next is a road test against 2-4 Riley County. You can listen to that game on KMZA 92.1 FM.

Sabetha holds on to their number four ranking in the Kpreps poll after entering the rankings for the first time last week. The Bluejays defeated Riverside in a decisive 56-0 win. This Friday, Sabetha will take on 1-5 Horton. Sabetha also enters the KSHSAA Covered rankings for the first time this year with a number five ranking. Atchison County was among others considered in the KSHSAA Covered poll.

In Class 1A, Centralia remained unbeaten defeating Garden Plain on the road 28-13. The Panthers had to travel roughly four hours south to knock off the Owls who were among others considered in last week’s rankings. They are now 6-0 with a number three ranking in Kpreps and a number two ranking in KSHSAA Covered with a road game against 3-3 Riverside next.

Troy holds on to their number five ranking in the Kpreps poll after they handily beat Jackson Heights 32-0 this past Friday to improve to 5-1. They go to 1-5 Onaga this Friday. The Trojans stay at number four in the KSHSAA Covered poll as well. St. Mary’s is among others considered in both polls, and Riverside is being considered in the KPreps poll.

Axtell is still the undisputed heavyweight favorite to run the table in 8M-DII. They won their fifth game in a row via the mercy rule defeating Hanover 62-14 to improve to 6-0. They are ranked first in both polls still with 3-3 Frankfort coming up next.
