#25 K-State (3-1, 1-0) is riding high after defeating then #6 Oklahoma in Norman 41-34 in front of 84,000+ at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium and a reported 3.4 million television viewers.

It was arguably the best win of the Chris Klieman era, and quarterback Adrain Martinez’s favorite game he has played in the veteran’s five years of playing college football.

Martinez earned multiple awards for his performance last Saturday including Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week.

Dynamic duo of Martinez and running back Deuce Vaughn were clicking on all cylinders with their option reads which created misdirection. Vaughn finished his day with 116 rushing yards and Martinez had a career-high of 148. It was the first time the Cats had multiple 100+ yard rushers since the 2017 Cactus Bowl.

The offense racked up 509 yards of total offense which was the most they have gotten in a game since 2014 vs. Texas Tech. K-State ran 83 plays which was the most since the wild finish at Oklahoma State in 2011.

This week, they take on a (RV) Texas Tech (3-1, 1-0) team coming off a 37-34 overtime win against in-state rival Texas. It was the first time they defeated the Longhorns in Lubbock since the “Michael Crabtree game” in 2008. Last week was the second game this season in which the Red Raiders needed overtime to determine the outcome.

This is the fourth consecutive week the Red Raiders have matched up against an opponent ranked in the AP Top 25. With a game at Oklahoma State on the schedule next week, the streak will likely extend to five.

A matchup to watch this week will be Texas Tech’s stout run defense vs. K-State’s efficient ground game. Texas Tech averages allowing just over 99 yards per game on the ground which is tied for 27th best in the nation. K-State’s rushing attack averages 248.2 yards per game which is first in the Big 12 and seventh in the country.

K-State shouldn’t expect Texas Tech to be as undisciplined as Oklahoma was last week. The Sooners had multiple penalties in critical situations. OU was flagged a season high 11 times for 87 yards. Texas Tech is in the top-third in the country for penalty yards per game.

Texas Tech quarterback Donovan Smith has filled in wonderfully after their original starter Tyler Shough was injured in their season opener.

Smith is averaging 279.0 yards per game with a completion percentage of 65.7% and nine touchdowns, but he tends to be a tad reckless with seven interceptions.

He also gets a lot of help from their duo of running backs Tahj Brooks and SoRodorick Thompson. They don’t get a ton of carries, but Brooks averages 4.3 yards per carry and Thompson averages 4.4.

They also have one of the most explosive playmakers in the conference in wide receiver Myles Price. He has 25 catches and two touchdowns while averaging 66.3 yards per game.

On defense, some players to watch for include senior linebacker Tyree Williams. He leads the team in tackles (27), tackles for loss (6) and sacks (3).

They also have another stud linebacker in 5th year senior Krishon Merriweather. He has forced two fumbles and three quarterback hurries which both lead the team. He is also second on the team in tackles with 26.

In the secondary, senior defensive back Reggie Pearson Jr. is the leader of the position group and has made opposing quarterbacks pay when throwing in his direction. He already has a pair of interceptions, and a fumble recovery.

If K-State can capture what they did last week vs. Oklahoma, they should be able to reap success against a sneaky good Texas Tech team that is battle-tested.

There is no doubt that K-State’s defense will continue to wreak havoc. It’s all about K-State’s offense executing its gameplan led by Martinez and their offensive coordinator Collin Klein.

Overall record doesn't mean much, but K-State leads the series 13-9. K-State has won the last six meetings in a row and is 7-2 against the Red Raiders in Manhattan.

Prediction: #25 K-State 31, Texas Tech 21
