Troy Boys, Centralia Girls Advance to State Tournament in Dodge City

The Troy boys and Centralia girls advanced to the State Tournament in Dodge City this coming week after thrilling victories on Saturday night in the Sub-State Championship games in Frankfort. 

Boys: (3) Troy 58, (1) Cair Paravel 57

This game couldn't have been more exciting down the stretch. Top-seed Cair Paravel opened the game with a 13-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. 

They would push that out to 24-16 at halftime after they outscored Troy 11-4 in the second quarter. 

Both teams would essentially trade buckets back and forth in the third quarter with Troy outscoring the Lions 17-14 to get within 38-33 with eight minutes left. 

The Trojans saved their best quarter for last as they would outscore the Lions 25-19 in the fourth quarter to spring the upset. Cam Anderson hit two huge free throw's with three seconds left to give the Trojans a four point lead. 

Cair Paravel would hit a three pointer at the buzzer which made the final a one point game but the Trojans are off to the State Tournament for the first time since 1998. 

Troy posted four in double-figures led by Jerrit Norris with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Anderson added 13 while Reagan Hartman and Boden Benitz chipped in with 11 each. 

Cair Paravel was led by Noah Hastert with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Ethan Everhart added 14 points. Lions season comes to an end with a record of 15-5. 

Troy improves to 15-7 and will wait to see there seed and first round matchup in Dodge City this week. 

Girls: (3) Frankfort 39, (1) Centralia 44

The gym in Frankfort was packed for this one in the late game. Every bucket throughout the game would have the gym ringing with the intensity of the fans. 

Frankfort came out toe to toe with undefeated Centralia as the Wildcats would lead 15-14 at the end of the first quarter. 

Frankfort had to deal with Hattie Gros picking up her third foul at the end of the quarter so the Wildcats leading scorer was on the bench for the second quarter. 

Centralia was able to gather a lead as it was 27-24 at halftime. 

The Panthers defense was top notch in the third quarter as they held Frankfort to just three points. Centralia's offense couldn't take advantage as Frankfort's defense was also solid holding them to just eight points to make the score 35-27 going into the fourth quarter. 

The Wildcats battled and made things tough for Centralia down the stretch. The Panthers would get enough stops and make a few free throws to hold off Frankfort and advance to the State Tournament in Dodge City. 

Panthers were led by Oen Deters with 15 points while Jayden Wells added eight. Gros led Frankfort with 16 despite not playing in the second quarter. Sydney Wapp added nine points and eight rebounds off the bench. 

Frankfort's season comes to an end with a record of 15-8 while Centralia improves to 22-0 and will be one of the top-two seeds in Dodge City this week for the State Tournament.
