The AA legion baseball zone tournament at Sabetha is down to just three teams after Wednesday night Corning beat Hiawatha 7-3 and Marysville took down Doniphan County 6-1.

Corning Stays Alive Beating Hiawatha

Despite trailing 3-1 after the first inning, Corning scored three runs in the second and two in the third while taking advantage of three Hiawatha errors to advance in the loser’s bracket with a 7-3 victory.

Zac Fischer, Corbin Becker and Isaac Detweiler each collected two hits for Corning while Fischer and Ian Haverkamp each racked up two RBIs.

Trenton Talley was also strong on the mound for Corning throwing a complete game allowing just two earned runs on eight hits while striking out 10 and only walking one.

First Three Innings Cost Doniphan County Against Marysville

In the winner’s bracket final Marysville took advantage of a strong start and strong pitching to move on to the championship of the zone with a 6-1 win over Doniphan County.

Marysville scored two runs in the first and three in the third off DC starter Trent Spiker and that proved to be enough as Tregan Graff was dominant for Marysville tossing five innings allowing just two hits and no runs.

Graff also had two hits at the plate and scored once earning him McDonald’s Player of the Game honors on KNZA while Caden Brinegar added two hits and two RBIs.
