Back at state for the second consecutive season the Jeff County North Chargers knew they would have their hands full in the 2A quarterfinals with Wabaunsee who was the defending state champion.

Despite that, JCN battled and held a 2-1 lead in the best of five match and also had five match points, but Wabaunsee showed why they are one of the best fighting off each of those match points to earn a comeback 3-2 win and advance to Saturdays final four in Dodge City.

Jeff County North started strong on their home floor Tuesday night jumping out to a 10-6 lead early in set one with Kinsey Schneider and Macy Thompson controlling the net, but Wabaunsee battled back and scored five of the last six points in the set to win 25-20 and take a 1-0 lead.

The second set though was all JCN as Schneider continued to make her presence known at the net along with Addison Manville playing well to tie the match up at one set apiece with a 25-15 victory.

The third set was back-and-forth throughout with both sides going on 3-0 runs but JCN did enough to take the set 25-22 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.

In the fourth the Chargers played well throughout and held leads for a majority of the set including a 23-20 lead which made JCN fans come to their feet thinking their girls were off to the final four, but Wabaunsee responded with five in a row including a controversial last point to take the set 25-23 and force a decisive fifth.

Early on in the fifth Wabaunsee looked like they were going to run away the set as they jumped out to a 7-1 lead, but JCN battled back as Schneider recorded a couple kills at the net before JCN eventually tied the set up 8-8.

It went back-and-forth the rest of the way with Jeff County North holding onto five different match points including 14-13, but Wabaunsee battled through each one to eventually win the set 20-18 and the match 3-2.

The loss ends a remarkable season for JCN who ends the year at 32-6 with a Northeast Kansas League title and sends off three seniors in Kinsey Schneider, Kassidy Robertson and Jessica Genova.
