Area Teams and Individuals Qualify for 3A State Cross Country Meet

3A Regional Cross Country – Results

Area cross country teams competed at regional meets on Saturday at the 3A meet at Riley County and nine runners along with two teams punched tickets to the state meet.

On the girl’s side Sabetha finished second as a team to qualify for state led by Mary Lukert who started her day with a regional championship before helping the volleyball team win a sub-state title.

The Lady Jays also had Leah Lukert finish sixth to qualify for state, while Hiawatha added a fourth-place finish from Kate Madsen to punch her ticket.

On the boy’s side Sabetha won the meet to qualify for state as a team with three guys inside of the top 10 led by Kalvin Evans who finished seventh while Tyrese Bishop was eighth and Cameron Harrell 10th.

Hiawatha, Royal Valley and Nemaha Central each finished with one runner qualifying for state as the Redhawks had Justin Hodge finish third while the Panthers Antonio Hopkins was fourth and the Thunder’s John Langill ninth.

Area teams also competed at the 3A meet in Anderson County and four athletes punched their tickets to state.

The Perry Lecompton girls had two girls qualify for state as Kassidy Schumann finished eighth while Ryleigh Morgan was ninth.

The Kaw boys qualified the team to go to state with a second-place finish as James Bartlett came in fourth to lead the way.

Pleasant Ridge added a lone runner going to state as Logan Beying came in 10th.

All state qualifiers now get set for the state meet which is scheduled for Saturday at Wamego beginning at 12-noon.
