Heading into Friday night’s district game at Jackson Heights, the Valley Heights football team was hit with adversity after finding out that they would only have 11 guys available for what was sure to be a physical game.

It didn’t matter.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 14-0 lead early, led 28-15 at the half before holding the Cobras scoreless in the second half and to just 34 total yards of offense in a 56-15 victory.

Valley Heights wasted no time jumping in front after forcing Jackson Heights to punt the Mustangs needed just two plays before Trenton L’Ecuyer took a hand off 79 yards for a touchdown for a 6-0 lead.

The Mustangs forced another punt on Jackson Heights’ second possession and again struck quickly just four plays later on another L’Ecuyer run, this time a 53-yarder and it looked like a boat race was on.

But, after another Cobra punt the Mustangs got the ball back and fumbled on their first play and Jackson Heights took advantage with Dylan Thompson scoring on a 43-yard run to pull the Cobras within one score.

Valley heights responded with a pair of rushing touchdowns by Jake Yungeberg and Camerson Beardsley while the Cobras got a score on a pass from Thompson to Grant Amon to make it a 28-15 game at the half.

From there it was all Valley Heights as the Mustangs got a pick-six from Beardsley and three more rushing touchdowns in the second half from Yungeberg to put the game away.

Valley Heights finished with 385 yards of offense in the contest with Yungeberg rushing for 84 yards and four touchdowns while L’Ecuyer added 194 yards and those two early scores.

Jackson Heights had just 134 yards of total offense led by Thompson who had 86 yards on the ground and one score while throwing for 16 yards and one touchdown to Grant Amon.

Valley Heights (6-1) will now look to wrap up the second spot in the district next week at Northern Heights, while Jackson Heights (3-3) will travel to Jeff County North.
