24 Area Wrestlers Punch Tickets to 321A State Meet in Hays

321A Regional Wrestling at Council Grove – Results

A spot in the state tournament was on the line for area high school wrestling teams Friday and Saturday at the regional tournament at Council Grove and 24 area athletes punched tickets to the state tournament in Hays.

The most area state qualifiers came from the Riverside Cyclones who finished second as a team with three regional champions as Conner Hayes claimed the 126-pound weight class while Beau Horn won at 138 and Luke Horn at 160. The Cyclones also had Austin Geeting qualify for state at 132 pounds by placing third along with Quenton Barron taking third at 170.

After Riverside it was Maur Hill-Mount Academy who had a strong showing with four Ravens earning trips to state with Ethan Seager claiming a regional title at 106 pounds while Patrick Madden took fourth at 138, Dylan Smith fourth at 160 and Will Madden third at 195.

Perry Lecompton added three more guys to the state tournament with Grant Roush claiming a regional title at 152 pounds while Hayden Robb took third at 220 and Mason Bahnmaier fourth at 113.

Along with Perry Lecompton earning three state qualifiers Oskaloosa also will send three guys to Salina with Eli King and Justin Miller each claiming second at regionals at 195 and 285 pounds respectively while Christopher King placed fourth at 220.

Two Twin Valley League teams will each send two guys to the state meet as Doniphan West had Nathaniel Howerton win a regional title at 182 pounds and Carter Jensen take second at 126 while Onaga had two guys earn fourth with Rilyn Mayginnes at 182 pounds and Vincent Lara at 285.

The Sabetha Bluejays were the last Big 7 League team that will guys to state as Walker Lowdermilk claimed a regional title at 170 pounds while Kaden Dillon took second at 152.

The Northeast Kansas League rounds out area state qualifiers as ACCHS will send two guys after Colby Smith took first at 145 pounds and Mason Scholz finished second at 120 while Pleasant Ridge will send Robert Gwartney at 182 pounds after finishing third.

These area athletes now gear up for the state meet at Fort Hays State University Friday and Saturday with live bottom of the hour reports FM 103.9 KNZA.
