WASHINGTON (AP) — Sophomore guard Angel Rodriguez scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half as Kansas State escaped George Washington with a 65-62 win on Saturday.

Dwayne Smith's 3-pointer with 2 seconds remaining rimmed out and senior Rodney McGruder corralled the rebound to ensure the Wildcats' first road win of the season.  The squad has now won seven of their last eight non-conference road games dating back to 2008, including six consecutive wins.  This streak has come after losing 10 straight from 2003-06.

A Washington, D.C., native, McGruder earned his fifth career double-double and first of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds.  Playing in front of numerous family and friends, he scored 12 of his 15 points in the first half.  Junior Will Spradling added 10 points, while sophomore Thomas Gipson added a game-high 12 rebounds.  The No. 1 offensive rebounding team in the country, K-State held a 46-36 edge on the glass, which included 24 offensive boards.

Smith led the way for the Colonials (4-5) with a team-high 14 points and Isaiah Armwood had 12 points, 10 rebounds and a game-high seven blocked shots.

The Wildcats let a seven-point second-half lead slip away but jumped ahead for good on Nino Williams’ putback with 3:18 remaining. Rodriguez was fouled while attempting a 3-pointer with Kansas State ahead 58-57, and he sank all three free throws with 1:46 left.

With K-State leading 63-60, Rodriguez missed a one-and-one free throw with 26 seconds left. After Joe McDonald’s layup cut the lead to one, Spradling made two free throws, putting the Wildcats up three with 13 seconds left.

K-State returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 15, as the Wildcats head west to the Battle in Seattle where the Wildcats will face No. 10/10 Gonzaga (9-0) at KeyArena.  The game will tip at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
