The Nebraska football team had four players named Thursday to the Capital One Academic All-District 7 football team, as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSDIA). Each of the four honorees advances to the national ballot, where they will be eligible for the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Team.
 
The four honorees are led by senior I-back Rex Burkhead and senior linebacker Sean Fisher. Both Burkhead and Fisher are repeat selections on the academic all-district 7 team, and both players earned Academic All-America honors last season. Burkhead was a first-team Academic All-American, while Fisher earned second-team honors.
 
Burkhead and Fisher are joined on the 2012 Academic All-District 7 team by junior tight end Jake Long and his twin brother, junior offensive guard Spencer Long. Like Fisher and Burkhead, Spencer Long is a repeat academic all-district choice, while Jake Long earned all-district honors for the first time.
 
Fisher was one of three members of the all-district 7 team with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. Fisher has maintained the perfect grade-point average in business administration and has plans to attend medical school following graduation. Burkhead carries a 3.45 cumulative grade-point average in history and is on track to graduate in December, completing his undergraduate work in just 3 ½ years.
 
With four players advancing to the national academic All-America ballot, Nebraska is in position to become the first school to earn 300 Academic All-Americans across all sports. Nebraska currently has a nation-leading 299 academic All-Americans across all sports, including 102 in football, the most of any individual team in the country.
