JCN Sweeps Track Titles at Their Home Invitational

The Jefferson County North Chargers played host to several area teams for track and field action on Thursday and it was the Chargers claiming the top team spots.

The JCN girls posted 206 total points to claim first place by a wide margin as Doniphan West and Valley Falls took second and third place, respectively. Oskaloosa, Immaculata and Burlingame finished fourth, fifth and sixth in the girl’s action. On the boys side it was a wide margin that JCN won by also as Oskaloosa finished second and Valley Falls third. Doniphan West, Burlingame and Immaculata finished fourth, fifth and sixth in the boy’s action.

Eight first place finishes by the lady Chargers spear headed their first place team performance, while the boys registered five first place winners on the day. The lady Chargers swept the relay events behind times of 53.35, 4:36.99 and 10:55.84 to win the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays. Julie Schrick, Carissa McAfee and Allie Hofelt each picked up gold on the track winning the 800 (2:42.44), 1600 (6:01.95) and 3200 (14:24.37), respectively. In the field events Kaylee Page and Gabbi George took first place in the pole vault (8'09) and shot put (34'07.50). On the boys side of competition Cole Bryant won the 400 meter dash (53.92) and Brayden Summers the 800 meter run (2:09.89), while the JCN boys also won the 4x400 meter relay (3:42.49). Dakota Hutchinson and Ridge Robertson won the boys long jump (16'09) and pole vault (10'00).

The Oskaloosa Bears enjoyed a strong performance from their boy’s competitors claiming seven first place finishes with Dillon Grother winning the triple jump (42'07.50) and 300 meter hurdles (42.43) to lead the way. The Bears posted a time of 44.93 to win the 4x100 meter relay for the boys, while Jordan Butler won the 3200 meter run (11:37.95) and Tommy Molder claimed gold in the 200 meter dash (23.43). Ben Harvey and Kyle Hopkins added two more first place finishes winning the javeiln (140'03) and high jump (5'10). CJ Kilgo was the only lady Bear to win gold as she claimed first in the 300 meter hurdles behind a time of 52.23.

Kenzie Blevins led the Doniphan West Mustangs again on the track season as she won the 100 meter dash (13.39), triple jump (34'01.50) and long jump (15'01). Alyssa Clark added a gold for the Mustangs by winning the girls javelin with a toss of 115'05, while Kody Collins won the 110 meter hurdles (16.74) and Carson Lackey picked up first in the 100 meter dash (11.85).

Valley Falls had five event wins on the day as Justin Myers and Dallas Brown each won the boys 1600 meter run (5:07.60) and discus (124'02), respectively, while the Dragon boys won the 4x800 meter relay, too with a time of 9:00.97. Emily Nottingham and Katlynn Sample each claimed first place firsts for the lady Dragons winning the 200 meter dash (27.99) and the 400 meter dash (1:05.97).

Sarah O'Neil and Jordan Sachse each picked up a gold medal for the Immaculata Raiders winning the girls 100 meter hurdles (17.30) and high jump (4'10).
