For the 12th time in school history the Centralia Panthers hoisted a first place trophy at the end of the State volleyball championship competition, as they posted a 5-0 record in Hays.

Looking to defend their 1A-DI State title from last year the Panthers were on the prowl in Hays and started the competition by dominating their opponents in pool play action not allowing over 17 points scored against them while winning all three pool play game in straight sets. Centralia opened pool play by squaring off with Pratt-Skyline and after getting down 6-3 early in set one the Panthers rattle off four-straight points to take the lead and gain the set one win. In set two the Panthers notched nine-straight points early for a 9-1 advantage and cruised to the match win, 25-16, 25-7.

Next up the Panthers took on LaCrosse in pool play and again were clicking on all cylinders using a multitude over service aces and textbook play. After taking set one in set two the Panthers pounced on the Leopards early with a 6-1 lead that grew to 18-5 and ultimately ended with the Panthers winning in straight sets, 25-13, 25-7.

Looking to win the pool and finish pool play unbeaten Centralia took on a familiar foe from State on in the Hoxie Indians in the final pool play contest. Panthers last year fell to Hoxie in pool play, only to beat them for the State title, this time Centralia made lite work of Hoxie winning in straight sets 25-14, 25-17. Behind early leads established by the Panthers they cruised to the win.

Moving to the Semifinals the Panthers were one win away from a return trip to the State title competition and had a matchup against another team they played the previous year at State in the Waverly Bulldogs. Centralia continued to bring out the claws and pounce on their opponents downing Waverly in straight sets, 25-13, 25-13 to move on to the Championship.

Centralia needed just one more win to successfully defend their State title and standing in their way was the one seed of the 1A-DI State tournament in the Goessel Bluebirds who went into the match undefeated. Set one was tight early but after being tied 12-12 it was the Bluebirds that took control and went on to hand Centralia their first set loss of the State tournament, but that proved to be the only set lost by Centralia at State. The Panthers responded after a set one loss to get back to their form in the first four competitions at State using multiple consecutive point runs to secure the win, 17-25, 25-15, 25-13.

The Panthers wrapped up the State tournament with a perfect 5-0 record at Hays to successfully defend their State title and capped off another stellar season, finishing the year 44-1 and a State Champion for the 12th time in school history.
