On Friday night Hiawatha welcomed Doniphan County, Atchison and Marysville to town for the 31st annual Leo Tristch legion baseball tournament and saw the tournament finish on Friday night as well. Due to the anticipated rain over the weekend the tournament was shortened just to three games and all played on Friday night, as the winners of the two first round games would play each other for the Championship.

Hiawatha opened the night against Atchison and it was Atchison punching their ticket to the Championship match as they held on for the 10-9 win, while Doniphan County took on Marysville and fell 8-6 to Marysville despite a late attempt at a comeback. In the Championship matchup it was all Marysville as they earned the 10-2 win over Atchison in just five innings.

Night started off with Atchison pouncing on Hiawatha early scoring a run in the first, two in the second and then took what looked to be control of the game with a five-run fourth inning to lead 8-0. Atchison five-run fourth was aided by multiple Hiawatha miscues with a pair of errors in the inning and six in the game. Hiawatha didn't give in fighting back with a seven-run bottom of the fifth to draw within one-run at 8-7. A three RBI double by Dakota Bayles and two-run homer by Parker Hasenkamp in the inning highlighted the seven run frame. Both teams added two runs each later in the game and Atchison held on for the 10-9 win.

Atchison in the win was led by Tanner Huntington who finished the contest 3-4 with a double, run scored and RBI, while Quentan Reichart was 2-3 with two RBI's and a run scored and Cody Calhoon had a pair of hits. Hiawatha in the loss had 2-4 games by Bayles and Brendan Steele; Bayles finished with two runs scored, three RBI and a double, while Steele had a home run, two RBI's and a run scored.

With the win Atchison moved to 6-8 on the season and moved to the Championship game later Friday night awaiting the winner of Doniphan County versus Marysville, while Hiawatha with the loss fell to 3-17 on the season.

In the second game of the night both Marysville and Doniphan County got the offense going early with a pair of runs each in the first inning making it 2-2 after just one inning. But in the second inning Marysville took over the game with three-runs and ultimately never gave up the lead. Doniphan County did answer back with a pair of runs in the third making it a 5-4 Marysville lead but Marysville stretched the lead back out with a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth. Down 8-4 going into the bottom of the seventh Doniphan County battled and got a pair of runs back but only managed two, falling 8-6.

Brock Watts led Marysville pitching all seven innings, striking out 11 to earn the win, while Coleman Frost and Garrett Eck each had three hits. Phoenix Keller lead the Doniphan County offense with a 3-4 night with a home run and four RBI's, while Caleb Winkel had two hits and two runs scored. Doniphan County pitchers combined to give up 13 hits to Marysville and nine walks, while Doniphan County left 13 on base themselves.

With the loss Doniphan County fell to 10-3 on the season, while Marysville punched their ticket to the Championship game versus Atchison.

In the Championship matchup Marysville took the early lead and never gave it up earning the 10-2 five inning run-rule win over Atchison. Marysville got on the board in the first and second inning with two-runs in each frame to lead it 4-0, before Atchison broke through with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third making it 4-2 through three. It was an answer by Marysville after that with a run in the fourth and then five more in the top of the fifth to lead 10-2, going into the bottom of the fifth when the shutdown Atchison to earn the win.

Atchison managed only four hits in the competition and was plagued by six errors in the matchup as well, while Marysville had eight hits and Triston Hormann earned the win on the mound pitching five innings giving up two runs, while striking out seven.

The loss sends Atchison to 6-8 on the season as they finish second in the Tristch tournament and Marysville with a pair of wins of Atchison and Doniphan County earned the Tristch tournament title.
