Frankfort & Sabetha Split NEKL Legion Doubleheader

Frankfort and Sabetha had met up twice already this season both times in tournament play and they split those games and did the same on Thursday night in their first NEKL regular season action against each other last night, splitting the doubleheader. Frankfort picked up the game one win 6-2, while Sabetha bounced back to earn the 5-3 win in game two.

In game one Frankfort started the contest with four straight singles and all four guys came around to eventually score and give Frankfort the early 4-0 lead. Cody Huerter added another run on the board for Frankfort with his second RBI single of the game coming in the second inning to stretch the lead to 5-0. Sabetha's first true opportunity to score came in the third as they loaded the bases but failed to score, but finally did get on the board in the sixth inning scoring a pair of runs as they started the inning off by getting the lead-off man on via an error. Frankfort did add another run to their total with it coming in the fifth inning as the grabbed the 6-2 win.

Sam Steinlage paced Frankfort on the night as he picked up the pitching victory going six and a third innings, giving up two runs on three hits, two walks and three hit batters, while striking out nine. Steinlage also got it done offensively going 2-4 with two RBI's and two runs scored, partnered with his pitching his night earned him McDonald's "Player of the Game" on Kanzaland radio. Lucas Adams, Huerter and Devin Rempe each had multi-hit games, also. Adams finished the game 2-3 with two runs scored and two walks, while Huerter was 2-4 with a run scored and Rempe had a pair of hits.

Sabetha in the loss registered on three hits coming from Taylor Bauman, Brandon Poe and Keegan Schumann, while Blake Popkess pitched five innings taking the loss as the Sabetha starter.

Game two it was early offense again that proved to be the difference in the game as Frankfort struck first in the top of the first inning going up 1-0 on an RBI double by Brett Burdiek but Sabetha responded in the top of the first scoring five runs. Gaven Schumann highlighted the inning for Sabetha with a two RBI double, while Kyler Krebs had an RBI single in the inning also and Sabetha lead 5-1 after one. Runners were limited for both teams after the first but Frankfort did manage to cut into Sabetha's lead with a two-run fourth inning behind Burdiek's second RBI double of the game, but Sabetha held on for the 5-3 win.

Gaven Schumann and Krebs registered the only two hits of the night for Sabetha in game two as Schumann finished the night 1-2 with a double, two RBI and a run scored and Krebs was 1-2 with an RBI. Jake Meyer picked up the pitching victory going four strong innings giving up three runs on five hits and a walk, while striking out three and Tyler Hackney pitched the final inning for the save.

Frankfort in the loss had 2-2 games from Huerter and Burdiek, as Huerter finished 2-2 with two runs scored and Burdiek was 2-2 with two doubles, two RBI's and a run scored. Lucas Adams took the loss on the mound pitching a solid four innings giving up five runs on two hits, six walks and two hit batters, while striking out six.

With the split on the night both teams remained at .500 on the season overall as Frankfort moved to 6-6 and 4-3 in League play and Sabetha moved to 10-10 and 5-3 in League action.
