Three teams from the NEKL took to the diamond on Tuesday night as Seneca hosted Hiawatha for a League doubleheader and Sabetha hosted Oskaloosa in a non-league double dip.

Seneca took the lead in the League standings with a sweep of Hiawatha last night winning 11-1 in four innings in game one and following that up with a 7-4 win. While, Sabetha battled back in game one against Oskaloosa to gain the 9-8 win in nine innings and breezed to the 11-1 four inning win in the second game.

Seneca Notches Pair of League Wins with Sweep of Hiawatha

Seneca took the lead in the NEKL standings with the doubleheader sweep of Hiawatha last night earning an 11-1 win in four innings in game one and following that up with a 7-4 win in game two.

The night started with Seneca taking the early lead in the first game scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning off an two-run homer by Dustin Rottinghaus and then added two more runs in the third inning to lead 4-0 after three innings. Hiawatha finally broke through in the top of the fourth after getting the leadoff man on the previous three innings Hiawatha scored the leadoff man in the fourth to make it 4-1 using a Taylor Jacobsen RBI single to score the run. Seneca answered in the bottom of the fourth to take firm control of the game and earn the 11-1 run-rule win behind a seven-run inning.

Dustin Rottinghaus led the offense for Seneca finishing 2-3 with the two-run that got things started in the game, while scoring a pair of runs and posting four RBI's, earning him McDonald's "Player of the Game" honors on Kanzaland radio. Justice McKernan and Dalton Hiltbrand each added a pair of hits going 2-3 at the plate, while Alex Rottinghaus earned the win on the mound pitching four innings, giving up one-run on five hits and a walk, while striking out three.

Hiawatha in the loss had just five hits, with Jacobsen picking up the lone RBI and Ryker Smith scoring the team's lone run.

In game two, Seneca took the early lead again this time plating four quick runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by an RBI double by Cody Rottinghaus in the inning. Hiawatha picked up a run of their own in the second as Jacobsen led the inning off with a double and came around to score, but Seneca answered with a run in the bottom of the second. Seneca's lead was cut to two in the top of third as Hiawatha plated two runs on a two RBI single by Jacobsen, making it a 5-3 game. Seneca extended the lead back out with two-runs in the fourth making a 7-3 game going into the top of the fifth inning. Down to their final three outs, Hiawatha drew the leadoff walk to start the inning and ultimately scored a run, but only managed one, falling 7-4 to Seneca.

Alex Rottinghaus again picked up the pitching victory starting game two after winning game one, while offensively, Devin Henry was 2-2 with a walk and Cody Rottinghaus was 2-3 with a double RBI and run scored to lead Seneca.

Hiawatha used four pitchers in the loss as they struggled throughout the competition to find consistency on the mound. While, Jacobsen continued to perform well at the plate for Hiawatha going 2-3 with a double, run scored and two RBI, while Brendan Steele was 1-2 with two runs score and a walk.

With the wins Seneca moves to 6-3 on the season and 6-2 in League play, while Hiawatha fell to 2-13 on the year with the losses and are still in search of their first League wins of the year.

Sabetha Sweeps Oskaloosa in Non-League Doubleheader

It was two drastically different games at Somerset Park in Sabetha on Tuesday between Sabetha and Oskaloosa but they both went in Sabetha's favor on the night as the Raptors earned a 9-8 nine inning win in game one and 11-1 four inning win in game two.

Sabetha found themselves down early to Oskaloosa in game one trailing 8-2 early but managed to chip away at the lead and comeback for the win. Tyler Ulrich cut the Oskaloosa lead to three in the third with a three-run double with two outs in the inning, making it 8-5. Bauman added an RBI double later and Blake Popkess had a solo homerun that helped Sabetha get back into the game. Sabetha finally tied the game in the seventh without a hit and Dustin Boeckman delivered the decisive RBI single in the ninth to give Sabetha the 9-8 win.

Boeckman finished the night with a pair of hits as he had a two-run homer to go with his walk-off single, while, Taylor Bauman finished the night with a pair of hits. Kyler Krebs picked up the pitching victory in relief of starter Gaven Schuman, as Krebs pitched the final two innings.

In game two, Oskaloosa took the early lead again scoring one-run in the top of the first, but Sabetha quickly changed things to their favor with a six-run bottom of the first to cruise to the 11-1 win. Bauman earned the victory pitching a complete game five-hitter, while Popkess and Boeckman provided great offense games. Popkess notched three hits, while Boeckman added a pair of hits to his night.

With the doubleheader sweep Sabetha moves to .500 on the season at 9-9.
