Saturday May 31st:

Doniphan County Tops Auburn 14-6 in Six Innings

Doniphan County legion team with many guys fresh off a State baseball appearance with Troy high school hit the diamond on Saturday and hosted Auburn (Neb.) for a non-league showdown and came out with the 14-6 win in six innings.

The offense pounded Auburn as Reid Gresser was 3-3, Alex Schmille had a pair of hits with three RBI, Tucker Morris registered two hits and Nathan Gaarder had a two-run homer. Phoenix Keller earned the pitching victory going 5 1/3 innings giving up just a pair of hits, but did issues over a handfull of free passes leading to some runs for Auburn.

Sunday June 1st:

Doniphan County Beats Frankfort in First Game of DH with Second Rained Out

In the first league action of the year for both teams it was a tight contest between Doniphan County and Frankfort in Frankfort as Doniphan County held on for the 3-2 win in game one of the double header, while game two was rained out.

Frankfort had the tying run at third and the winning run at first in the bottom of the seven when Tucker Morris took over for Jeff Watts to get the final out of the game and record the save. Watts earned the pitching victory while striking out 13 in the contest just giving up four hits in 6 2/3 innings. The eventual winning run for Doniphan County was scored on a double steal in the competition.

Sabetha Sweeps Road DH Against Atchison

Sabetha used a 13-hit attack and the stellar pitching of Gaven Schumann to claim the 11-3 win in the first game of the double header. Gaven gave up three runs on three hits and worked around seven free passes to earn the complete game win, while aiding his cause offensively getting three hits including a two-run homer.

Early the score was tied as Atchison tied the score in the 3rd on a 2-run Lane Fry double, making it 2-2 at that point. Sabetha took a 4-2 lead in the fifth on RBI singles by Keegan Schumann & McKenzie McAfee and took firm control of the game with seven runs in the sixth.  K. Schumann and Taylor Bauman each had 2-run doubles and G. Schumann added an RBI double. Tyler Ulrich on top of Gaven Schumann had a three hit game, while multiple other guys had two hits each.
 
In game two Sabetha pounced on Atchison early leading 8-0, but had to hold on for the 9-6 win. Keegan Schumann blasted a three-run homer and McAfee added a two-run shot as Sabetha scored six in the second. Jake Meyer earned the victory going five innings, while Taylor Bauman earned the two inning save. Adam Herl, Keegan Schumann, McAfee, Bauman & Gaven Schumann all had two hits in the win.

Seneca Gets the Sweep Over Hiawatha

Seneca started the season by notching 10 runs in a pair of wins over Hiawatha to earn 10-1 and 10-5 wins. Game one Hiawatha was plagued by nine errors in the competition as both teams only had four hits each as Seneca won 10-1. Justice McKernan, Devin Henry, Cody Rottinghaus and Matt Haverkamp each had a hit for Seneca Rottinghaus had two RBI, while Seneca as a team drew eight walks. Hiawatha was led by Parker Hasenkamp who was 2-3 with an RBI, while Dakota Bayles and Taylor Jacobsen each had a hit.

Game two was 5-4 Hiawatha leading in the top of the fifth when Seneca loaded the bases with three straight walks with one out and Seneca took advantage of the walks taking the leading after plating six runs. The game was at 10-5 when the rain started and the umpires suspended the game and Hiawatha conceded the game in the morning rather than make it up. Dustin Rottinghaus, Cody Rottinhaus and Haverkamp each had two hits, while six guys each had one hit for Hiawatha.
