Centralia Wins 1A Boys Golf Regional, While B&B & Valley Heights Also Qualify for State

On Monday it was the Twin Valley League highlighting the Lost Springs-Centre 1A boys golf Regional as three area teams qualified for State and two other schools had individual qualifiers for State.

Centralia paced the way on the day finishing with the best team score by far posting a 395 on the day as they were led by all four of their top scores being in the top 10 individually. Those top scores included a first place individually by Ryan Vernon who posted a 92 to claim the Regional title. Daniel Mueting and Brett Burdiek each notched top five showings finishing third and fourth, respectively after posting rounds of 97 and 99. While, Jason Gore rounded out the four-man score for the Panthers with a 107 on the day, earning him a tenth place individual finish.

The B&B Falcons continued their strong athletic year in their final school year as the first year the school has field a boy’s golf team they qualified for State finishing second place as a team with a score of 426. Blake Scism paced the Falcons finishing second place, just one-stroke off of first, posting a 93. Trevor Holthaus tallied a 105 to claim the other Falcons top 10 finish taking ninth place.

Valley Heights Mustangs claimed the third team spot on the day punching their ticket to the 1A State competition, also. Mustangs were led by a pair of top 10 finishes as Alec Doner and Payton Manley finished sixth and eighth, respectively with rounds of 101 and 104, respectively.

The Linn Bulldogs and Frankfort Wildcats will also be sending golfers to compete at the 1A State golf tournament. For Linn they were led by the fifth best performance on the day as Andrew Meyer posted a 101 to finish fifth and qualify for State, while his teammate Chase McGatlin also qualified with a 110 on the day. Brett Kenworthy for Frankfort posted a 111 score and was on the top five individual scorers not from a qualifying team earning him a spot at the State tournament.

Attention now turns to the 1A State tournament for these golfers as they will compete in Garden City, KS at Southwind Country Club on Tuesday, May 27th.
