A person with knowledge of the situation says that Miami athletic director Shawn Eichorst has resigned, less than 18 months after he began leading the Hurricanes' troubled department.
The person spoke to The Associated Press Thursday on condition of anonymity because the university had not publicly announced Eichorst's decision, and that university officials were deciding on how to proceed with an interim AD. Various reports in Nebraska have identified Eichorst this week as a candidate to replace retiring Tom Osborne as the Cornhuskers' athletic director.
Eichorst was hired in April 2011. The Hurricanes' compliance practices have been under NCAA investigation throughout his tenure, an inquiry that began after a former booster told Yahoo Sports he provided athletes and recruits with impermissible benefits over an eight-year period starting in 2002.
