Valley Falls Dragons headed to State in 2A for the first time since 2001 and came into the tournament as the number two seed but drew a tough opponent in the first round in St. Mary’s Colgan and fell 60-57 to see their season come to a close.

The Dragons got off to a nice start leading 20-15 after the first quarter, but saw that led cut to two at halftime leading just 34-32. Lead grew to six after three quarters of action as the Dragons held the 47-41 advantage, but St. Mary’s Colgan pushed back using a 19-10 fourth quarter to send Valley Falls to a heart breaking 60-57 loss in the opening round of the 2A tournament.

Luke Burns paced the Dragons with 18 points, while Max Badgett chipped in 10 points for the Dragons in the loss who saw their season come to a close.

With the loss the Dragons wrap up the year 22-2, making that State tournament after winning sub-state on top of the first ever Northeast Kansas League title on the season, enjoying a great year on the court.
