B&B Lady Falcons Earn Spot in State Title Game, While Boys Will Play For Third

Coming into the day as one of only five schools across the State to have both the girls and boys basketball teams competing in the semifinals of State competition in all the classifications at State the B&B Falcons were looking to earn spots in the 1A-DII State championship games.

At the end of the night the lady Falcons are headed to the championship game with a 40-37 win over Dighton, while the boys will play for third place after falling to Wallace County in the semifinals 69-46.

The day started with the lady Falcons falling behind to Dighton early trailing 14-8 after the first quarter and was behind 22-16 at the half. Looking to lock things down in the second half the Falcons clamped down on the defense and allowed just 15 second half points to Dighton, while scoring 24 of their own to earn the 40-37 win.

B&B used free throws down the stretch to secure the win hitting 8-14 from the free throw line in the game. Laura Sudbeck led the way with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Katie Huerter chipped in nine points and hit clutch free throws late to earn the Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA.

The lady Falcons with the win earned a spot in their sixth State title game winning two of the previous five in school history (1991 and 1999), while improving their record to 23-3 on the season.

B&B Falcon boys were looking to match the girls with a State championship bid but ran into a hot shooting Wallace County team.

Wallace County got out to a fast start but the Falcons answered the initial punch trailing just 18-17 after the first quarter. To start the second quarter the Falcons took the 19-18 lead on the first bucket but only scored three more points in remained of the quarter as Wallace County went on a 15-0 and posted a 24-5 second quarter to lead 42-22 at the half.

The Falcons looked to make the push back in the second half but was never able to get closer than 16 in the second half, as Wallace County earned the 69-46 win, as four guys finished with double figures for the Wildcats.

B&B on the night was led by Cameron Haug who scored 10 points with seven rebounds earning him Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA, while Trent Schulte scored nine points and Dustin Rottinghaus had seven points.

Falcons with the loss fell to 18-8 on the season and will play for third place to finish off their season.

B&B Falcon boys will start the action on Saturday for B&B with their third place game against Chetopa at 2:00pm, while the girls will play Golden Plains at 4:00pm for the 1A-DII State title, both game will be on 92.1 KMZA.
