It was a battle of birds on the court in the Twin Valley League and at the end of the night it was the home team the B&B Falcons coming away with the sweep over the Axtell Eagles. The night started with the Lady Falcons notching the 53-32 win, while the boys followed up with the 44-40 win.

Recently for the Lady Falcons senior guard, Katie Huerter has stepped up her scoring and that trend continued against Axtell busting out for a season high 26 points and opening the game scoring 12 of the team’s first 18 points as B&B flew out the gate to lead 18-10 after the first period.

The Axtell Eagles weathered the storm early and hung with the Falcons drawing to within one at 21-20 in the second quarter but a 6-0 run to end the first half gave B&B the 27-20 lead at the half.

The second half Huerter continued to score along with her teammates joining her as the lead ballooned up to 11 points after three quarters for the Falcons and B&B cemented the game in their favor with a 14-4 fourth quarter to close it out for the 53-32 win.

Huerter with her stellar 26 point performance paced the Falcons on the night scoring 18 of the 26 in the first half, earning the Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA. Senior, Ashley Kramer chipped in nine points, all in the second half, while Cassidy Hulsing and Laura Sudbeck both scored eight points helping the #1 Class 1A-Division II team in B&B improve to 15-2 on the season.

With the loss the Axtell Eagles fell to 11-6 on the season and was led by sophomore, Courtney Heinen on the night as she posted 14 points, while fellow sophomore, Kiersten Talbot chipped in nine points.

In the boys matchup it was a see-saw action packed affair as usual with the Falcons avenging a loss to Axtell from the TVL tournament earlier in the season.

Both teams had their moments in the first quarter and traded leads but at the end of the frame it was tied 13-13, then B&B took control in the second quarter holding the lead in the frame the whole quarter but at the end of the frame. Falcons looking like they were going to go into the half with the lead up by two saw, Axtell Eagle senior, Payton Heinen take the ball down the court in the waning seconds of the half and throw up the prayer from half court and drain the bucket to give Axtell the 24-23 lead at the half on the road.

The half-court shot seemed to give Axtell early momentum to start the second half and stretched the lead out early with a pair of three-pointers, but B&B was not rattled and answered with a run of their own ultimately own the 36-35 lead after the third quarter buzzer sounded. Headed into the fourth quarter neither team could score but that trend was bucked and B&B was able to hit a few free throws on the night to hold off Axtell for the 44-40 win.

Senior, Cameron Haug put together his best offensive game of the year posting 14 points earning Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA, while fellow senior, Dustin Rottinghaus chipped 13 points on the night. B&B with the win improved to 11-6 on the year.

With the loss Axtell fell to 11-6 on the year and was led by a 20 point showing by Payton Heinen on the night as Christian Buessing chipped in nine points.

Both teams turn around and suit up again on Monday at home in makeup games as B&B hosts Linn in what will be the final basketball games for the Falcons in the Baileyville gym, while Axtell plays host to Hanover.
