Twenty Area Teams Ranked in Latest KBCA Rankings -- Jan. 13th

With at least a pair of games underneath team’s belts post-holiday break the KBCA has released its new set of rankings and there was plenty of movement in the rankings for area teams as now 20 teams area ranked from Class 4A to Class 1A-Division II.

In Class 1A-Division II the B&B Falcons continue to highlight the rankings as the Lady Falcons have moved into the number one spot as they are 6-1 on the season and have won their last five including wins over Troy and Onaga last week. Lady Falcons moved up one spot, while the Falcon boys stayed put at number five with their 5-2 record after going 1-1 last week with a win over Troy and lost to Onaga on the road. The Axtell Eagle boys continued to remain ranked but fell down one spot to number 10 this week despite going 2-0 last week with wins over Wetmore and Frankfort, improving to 5-4 on the season.

Class 1A-Division I continue to see five Twin Valley League teams ranked between the girls and boys polls. The Lady Mustangs of Valley Heights remained unbeaten on the season improving to 7-0 last week with a win over Onaga and close win over Hanover, staying put at number two in the rankings. The Lady Bulldogs of Linn moved up to number six this week, up one spot after going 2-0 last week with wins over Wetmore and Hanover, improving to 6-1 on the season.

On the boys side in 1A-DI both Valley Heights and Centralia took a step back in the rankings moving down one spot each to third and fourth, respectively. Mustangs are 6-1 on the season going 1-1 last week with a loss to Onaga and responded with a win over Hanover in their last game. Centralia improved to 5-2 last week with road wins over Doniphan West and Blue Valley-Randolph. Hanover sits at 6-3 on the season and moved up to number nine this week after beating Linn and falling to Valley Heights last week.

In 2A on the girls side the Jefferson County North Lady Chargers and Washington County Lady Tigers continue to be staples in the rankings checking in at number two and six again this week after both remaining unbeaten on the season. JCN Chargers sit at 7-0 after beat Jackson Heights and Valley Falls last week and Washington County moved to 9-0 on the season with wins over Troy and Blue Valley-Randolph last week. On the boys side for the third straight week a different area team is ranked 10th in the polls as this week its the Valley Falls Dragons who are 7-1 after beating Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Jefferson County North last week.

Class 3A all three teams ranked last week moved up and another jumped into the polls this week. The Sabetha Bluejay boys after a marathon win over a ranked Holton team on the road in four overtimes remained unbeaten on the season, improving to 7-0 and jumped up three spots to number four this week. While the Lady Bluejays returned to the rankings this week checking in at number 10, after moving to 6-1 on the year with wins at Hiawatha and Holton last week.

Nemaha Valley boys moved up two spots to number seven after beating Santa Fe Trail on the road last week to improve to 6-1 on the year. Marysville Lady Bulldogs remained unbeaten on the season moving to 7-0 after wins over Abilene and Falls City, helping the Bulldogs move up to number four in the latest rankings.

Class 4A-Division II, the Lady Chargers of Santa Fe Trail held off Nemaha Valley last week to remain unbeaten at 6-0 on the season and keeping them at number one, while on the boys side the Holton Wildcats fell in four overtimes to Sabetha in their last game to suffer their first loss of the season moving to 6-1 but remained ranked at number three in the latest polls. Royal Valley joined Holton in the boy’s rankings for the first time this year as the Panthers who are 4-4 are ranked seventh in the latest poll.

Teams turn their attention to regular season matchups this week but have mid-season tournaments looming in the week to come.
