Just days after learning their head coach had taken another coaching position the Highland Community College football program has their new man to take over the reins of Scotties program and Highland is not foreign to the new Coach as he’s been with the program for three years.

Aaron Arnold has officially accepted the head coaching position at Highland CC according to his twitter account. Arnold has served as the Scotties Offensive Line Coach, Run Game Coordinator, Head Strength Coach and Assistant Coach last year and the last few seasons, under previous Head Coach, Ryan Held who accepted the head coaching job at Northeastern Okalhoma A&M earlier this week.

Arnold was a part of the Scotties team this past year that went 6-4 and made their first ever appearance in the Jayhawk Conference playoffs in school history and a big part of that was the offense of the Scotties which Arnold had a huge hand in. Arnold coached an offensive line that helped the Highland offense lead the Jayhawk conference in total offense (428 ypg) and finished sixth nationally in passing offense (301 ypg), while improving the offense by a total of over 285 ypg and 14 ppg.

Aaron who is a Kansas native from Scott City, has great experience under great college coaching tutelage as a player and coach. Arnold started his college football career at Garden City Community College where he played two years and was co-captain, helping the Busters to two conference championships and a Regional VI championship. He transferred after his sophomore season to Kansas State and under Coach Bill Snyder was part of two bowl teams winning the Insight and Holiday Bowls during his time at Kansas State, while earning at B.S. in Social Science.

Arnold then served three years under Coach Snyder at Kansas State as an strength coach on the team and then moved on to serve as the assistant strength coach at Texas Tech where he worked under Tommy Tuberville, before coming to Highland.

Scotties coming off a 6-4 season and one of the best years for the football program in years, looked for stability and found it on the current staff with the hire of Arnold as their Head Coach and the team brings back plenty to work with next year. Highland quarterback, Brandon Bergeron returns for the Scotties after breaking almost every Highland passing record this past year and being the top quarterback in the Jayhawk Conference. Along with Bergeron two more of the team’s top four rusher’s return. Highland will have to replace their top two receivers but bring back their third and fourth leading receivers from last year.

On defense the Scotties will have plenty to replace as their top six leading tacklers move on but Jesse Mack and DeShawn Sims both who finished with 42 tackles return at cornerback and defensive end, respectively.

Highland looks to start a new chapter with Coach Arnold at the helm will continuing the success from last season established by Coach Held and the team.
