Three of the four teams came into the night searching for win number one of the season while looking for an identity early on into the season also as the Wetmore Cardinals played host to the Frankfort Wildcats in a Twin Valley League showdown on Tuesday (December 17th).

At the end of the night Wetmore Cardinals notched a pair of victories under their belt with the sweep over Frankfort as the girls worked themselves to a 47-32 win and the boys a 56-49 victory.

In the girl’s matchup Frankfort took the early lead after the initial baskets of the game but a stretch run by Wetmore to end the first quarter and start the second pushed them to the lead and a 17-11 halftime advantage.

Cardinals continued to stretch the lead in the second half outscoring Frankfort by six in the half to earn the 47-32 win, as senior, Brianna Boden who was scoreless in the first half put her stamp on the game with a 15 point performance in the second half by taking the ball to the rack and inside. Boden earned the "Community National Bank" Player to Bank On honors on KMZA for her performance. Freshman, Dakota McQueen and junior, Keri Pfrang joined Boden in double figures with 10 points each on the night and the Cardinals used a 13-17 night from the free throw line to help secure the win.

Frankfort in the loss saw a solid night by senior, Ashley Joseph as she tallied nine points and was aggressive on defense all night causing plenty of Wetmore turnovers in the contest. But it was the cold shooting early that doomed the Wildcats in the end.

With the loss Frankfort fell to 0-3 on the season, while Wetmore moved to .500 on the season at 2-2 with the win.

In the boys competition it was a faster pace game than the ladies and Wetmore and Frankfort trade turnovers in the first quarter but Wetmore worked out to a 19-12 lead after one frame and stretched that to a 32-19 advantage at the half as the Widlcats for the third straight game started off with a cold shooting night.

Frankfort continued their tale of two halves this season by outscoring Wetmore in the second half of the game but the Cardinals held serve with their lead and notched the win 56-49.

Cardinals on the night were led by Jermey Hoelscher who tallied a season high 19 points, scoring nine in the fourth quarter to help perserve the Wetmore win and earn himself the "Community National Bank" Player to Bank On honors on KMZA. Seniors, Dustin Boeckman and Kenton Bloom joined Hoelscher in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Frankfort in the loss was led by senior, Lucas Adams who tallied his best game of the season with 17 points, while the trio of Brett Kenworthy, Adam Koch and Trent Kennedy each registered eight points.

Wetmore notched their first win of the season moving to 1-3 on the year, while Frankfort fell to 0-3 to start the season.

Cardinals close out the first part of the season at home on Friday against Washington County, while Frankfort will host B&B on Friday.
