Highland Football Falls to Ranked Opponent for 2nd Straight Week
By Mike Smith

For the second straight week the Highland Community College Scotties played host to a ranked team this time it was the #13 ranked Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons. Unlike the previous week against Butler the Scotties were able to put points on the board against Hutchinson but still struggled on moving the ball and stopping the Dragons, ultimately falling 49-12.

The Blue Dragons outgained the Scotties 496-111 total yards on the day it was an early start for Hutchinson in the game scoring three touchdowns before Highland would get any points on the board. Highland's offensive woes continued in the game and their first score of the game didn't even come on offense either as Contereze Pierce picked off a Dragons pass and took it 80 yards to the house for a pick six; the extra point was missed making it 21-6 in the second quarter.

Hutchinson would add their second rushing touchdown of the game before the half to lead 28-6 at the half behind two rushing and two passing touchdowns. Out of the half it was all Blue Dragons scoring 21 points in the third quarter via two rushing touchdowns and a 54 yard punt return.

Highland would finally tallying their first points from the offense in the fourth quarter behind a Desmond McAgee one yard touchdown run, but the two point conversion was unsuccessful, leaving the score at 49-12 which would be the final.

Luke Barnes for Hutchinson threw 262 yards on on 23-32 with an interception; two touchdown passes went to Antonio Johnson who amassed 118 yards, two touchdowns on 10 carries. Terrell Bell rushed for 123 yards on the ground for the Blue Dragons with two touchdowns, while Orange Mooney added a rushing touchdown, also.

For the Scotties, McAgee scored the only offensive touchdown on the day while only rushing for 20 yards and passing for 52 yards on 7-16 passing. Shunquez Stephens had 57 yards passing on 5-11 throwing with an interception.

With the win Hutchinson improves to 3-1 and 3-0 in the Kansas Jayhawks Community College Conference, while Highland falls to 1-4 on the season and 1-3 in league play. Scotties continue league play next week when they go on the road and take on the 3-2 Coffeyville Community College Ravens on the road next Saturday October 6th at 7:00pm.
