Latest Wrestling Rankings released by KWCA -- Dec. 10th

The high school wrestling season is underway and several great performances have been displayed on the mat already by area wrestlers this season and many continue to be or jumped into the latest state rankings released by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association.

In Class 4A the defending State Champs remain ranked number one as a team after winning their first tournament of the year back on Saturday taking the title at the Spring Hill Dual tournament. The Wildcats are led by six different wrestlers who are individually ranked. Leading the way is senior, Cooper Zeller who remained ranked second in the heavyweight division at 285lbs, while Jonah Lutz, Justin Rieschick, Lucas Lovvorn and Mason Baum all are ranked third in the weight classes of 132, 145, 152 and 160lbs. Rieschick started the season ranked fifth in 132lb weight class but moved up to the 145lb weight class, while Lovvorn started the season ranked second and fell one stop to third, while Baum moved up one stop from number four.

Another Holton Wildcat in senior, Andrew Rieschick also is ranked on the season as he remained ranked fourth in the 170lbs weight class.

Despite falling out of the team rankings the Jeff West Tigers still have three individual wrestlers ranked in the latest polls. Senior, Justin Scott leads the charge for the Tigers as he continues to be ranked number one in the heavyweight division in 4A, while Josiah Dowding remained ranked at number five in the 160lbs weight class. Senior, Nate Holloman jumped into the rankings this week; ranking sixth in the 120lb weight class.

Atchison and Perry Lecompton each have a wrestler in the rankings this week, too. For the Redmen senior, Tyler Harris continues to be ranked second in his weight class of 170lbs. While Kaws senior, Brenden Neal jumped into the heavyweight rankings checking in at number five.

In Class 3-2-1A the ACCHS Tigers jumped up two spots as a team up to number seven after winning their home tournament the Titlon/Worley Invitational over the weekend. The Tigers are led by a quartet of ranked wrestlers with junior, Logan Bowen being ranked the highest coming in at number three in the 132lb weight class after starting the year ranked second in the 120lb class.

Tiger seniors, Zak Hollands and Scott Birkinsha both are ranked fifth in their weight classes at 138lbs and 170lbs. While junior, Willy Dieckmann continues to be ranked in the 145lbs weight class moving down two stops to number six this week.

Doniphan West Mustangs, Centralia Panthers, Troy Trojans, Riverside Cyclones and Marysville Bulldogs all have individual ranked in the KWCA 3-2-1A rankings. For the Mustangs sophomore, Hunter Idol and senior, Trevor Fee continued to be ranked as Idol ranks fifth in the 106lbs and Fee moved to the 170lbs weight class where he is ranked sixth.

Centralia senior, Andrew Beck moved up one spot in the latest rankings to number two in the weight class of 152lbs, while Troy Trojan junior, Tristan Speer continues to be ranked number but moves up to the 220lbs weight class from his preseason rank in the 195lbs weight class. Riverside Cyclones are led by seniors, Cody Walker and Sheldon Harris who are both ranked for Walker he’s ranked number two at 220lbs and Harris jumped into the rankings this week at number six. Marysville sophomore, Chris Deters continued to be ranked, too as he moved up two spots to third in the weight class of 113lbs.

The wrestling season continues with teams in action on Thursday and tournament looming this coming weekend for many area teams again.
