Strong start to the season has continued for the Highland CC basketball team as the men and women both picked up a pair of wins over the weekend each in HCC Classic at home.

For the #8 ranked lady Scotties they continued to remain unbeaten on the season cruising past St. Mary's JV back on Friday with a 107-44 win, shooting 55.6% from the floor in the contest while four gals scored double figures. Leading the charge was Celine Jolicoeur who was 10-11 from the floor and hit five three-pointers to tallying 28 points. Former Riverside Cyclone, Ashleigh Bristol chipped in 17 points, while Anna Deegan and India Johnson added 13 and 14 points, respectively.

On Saturday the lady Scotties cruised past McCook CC 85-56 to move to 12-0 on the season as they lead 44-21 at the half and had three players register double digits in the contest. Holton native, Ryan Bowser lead the way with 23 points on 9-17 shooting while adding six assists and seven steals for a solid all-around game in the win. Krystal Corhn and Bristol each added 10 points in the victory, too.

The Highland men took down a team from Nebraska on Friday in a close contest grabbing the five-point win 95-90 behind a big double-double from Martell Collins. Collins finished the night 13-22 from the floor with 32 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, all defensive and chipped in five assists. Former Doniphan West Mustang, Marc Ellis added 22 points of his own on 5-9 shooting, making four three's and going 8-9 from the charity stripe, while Robel Teckle added 16 points off the bench.

On Saturday the Scottie men worked past Livin' the Dream for an 81-73 win to improve to 7-3 on the season. Scotties lead by 10 at the half and used that lead to grab the win outrebounding their opponent by 20 (42-22). Collins again lead the way this time with 25 points on 10-21 shooting and another double-double by nabbing 15 rebounds. Jerricus Funderburke and Jamal LaFond each added double figures with 12 and 14 points in the win.

The Scotties next hit the hardwood tonight (Monday, December 1st) at home when they host Doane College JV in a women's and me's double header.
