The football season is in the books for all the Twin Valley League 8-Man teams and the year was a solid one overall as a league with plenty of great action. Three teams made the playoffs all making the semifinals and one team won a State title, again. While others enjoyed solid seasons and for some seasons of improvement.

With the season in the books the 8-Man TVL All-League honors have been announced and every team saw at least one honoree on the list.

State champion, B&B Falcons lead the way on the honors after capturing their fifth State title in school history and fourth in last six years this year, finishing with a 12-1 record in the school’s final year. The high scoring aerial attack B&B Falcon offense saw three guys earn first team honors and a pair of guys earn second team. Senior quarterback, Dustin Rottinghaus the maestro of the offense earned first team at QB after throwing for 2,666 yards, 41 TD’s and only 6 interceptions and ran for 14 TD’s, also. His two favorite targets seniors, Cameron Haug and Blake Deters earned first team at tight end after catching 997 and 1,172 yards, respectively this season and 14 and 23 TD passes from Rottinghaus. Senior, Cole Deters and junior, Derek Mueting earned second team on offense for the Falcons.

On the defensive side of the belt both Cole Deters and Mueting earned first team at defensive line and linebacker, respectively with Haug joining them on with first team’s honors along the d-line. Deters posted 102 tackles to ranked second on the team, while recovering six fumbles, notching a pair of interceptions and two sacks. For Haug he had 71 tackles, a sack and three fumble recoveries in his senior year on defense for the Falcons. Senior’s, Rottinghaus and Blake Deters notched second team All-League defense honors at linebacker and defensive back, respectively. Rottinghaus had 53 tackles, two interceptions, fumble recovery and a blocked field goal on the season, while Deters tallied 72 tackles and tied for the team lead in interceptions with five.

Hanover Wildcats for the second straight season saw their season end in the 8-Man Division II semifinals as B&B topped them in the contest and the Wildcats finished 8-3 on the season. Hanover senior, Brandon Jueneman and junior, Ethan Fritschi both earned first team offense honors along the offensive line, while their junior quarterback, Andrew Bruna earned second team honors. Bruna tossed the ball for 1,207 yards, 18 TD’s and only eight interceptions this season, while leading the team in rushing with 816 yards rushing and 18 TD’s. Wildcat’s leading receiver, Evan Zaborkstsky earned second team offense honors at tight end after catching 13 passes this season for 362 yards and five TD’s.

On defense, Fritschi and Jueneman both earned first team again with 14.5 ppg opponent average this season. Jueneman lead the team in tackles with 58 on the season while Fritschi registered 50 on the season. Ethan lead the team in sacks with seven, while also registering a pair of forced fumbles and Jueneman grabbed an interception. Junior’s, Preston Jueneman and Hunter Nicholson notched second team defense honors for the Wildcats at linebacker and defensive back, respectively. Jueneman nabbed three interceptions this year and posted 47 tackles, while Nicholson lead the team with five passes picked off and totaled 36 tackles. Hunter also earned All-League punter honors this season.

The Clifton-Clyde Eagles like Hanover and B&B made the playoffs and made a run to the semifinals but saw their season come to a close with a loss to Osborne the eventful 8-Man Division I state champs. Eagles wrapped up their season with a 9-4 year and were led by the play of Caleb Gelino who earned first team All-League on offense at runningback, while playing quarterback a lot for the Eagles this season tossing for 568 yards, but doing most of his damage offensively with his legs rushing for 1,500 yards and 22 TD’s. Senior, Logan Newell notched second team offense honors along the offensive line, while senior, William Ohlde earned second team honors at tight end. Ohlde on the season caught six TD passes and 26 passes total for 406 yards. Senior, Courtney VanCampen earned an All-League at large bid for the Eagles.

For the Axtell Eagles the season didn’t see a playoff bid under new Coach, Eric Detweiler but the Eagles finished 6-3 on the season and won their final three games of the year. On the offensive side of the ball junior offensive lineman, Andrew Feldkamp earned first team All-League honors. While on defense the Eagles had a trio of guys earn second team All-League honors as seniors, Derek Porting and Payton Heinen both earned the honors at linebacker and defensive line and Feldkamp earned the honors on the d-line, also. Porting lead the Eagles in tackles this past season with 55 tackles, while notching 3.5 sacks, an interception and fumble recovery, too. For Heinen he had three interceptions, 1.5 sacks and 28 tackles along the d-line, while he also earned All-League kicker honors. Feldkamp along the d-line tallied 3.5 sacks, 27 tackles and a blocked punt.

Frankfort, Linn and Blue Valley-Randolph all saw one player earn All-League honors. For the Wildcats of Frankfort senior tailback, Lucas Adams earned second team honors after leading the 2-6 Wildcats in rushing with 704 yards on 88 carries and scoring eight rushing TD’s. For Linn they improved their record this season to 4-5 from 0-9 the previous year and senior, Brett Peters led the Bulldogs this season with 1,346 yards rushing and 19 TD’s; Peters earned first team All-League runningback and defensive back. Blue Valley-Randolph Rams finished the season 5-4 on the year and were led by Marshall Carey who compiled most of the offensive for Rams this season and earned All-League at large honors.

Overall another great year for the TVL 8-Man teams with many teams performing well and three making the playoffs and one winning a state title. Next year will bring plenty of change for the 8-Man TVL teams as some move up or down in the Division levels and B&B will consolidated with Nemaha Valley.
