Benedictine To Host Tabor in National Championship Tournament
By Tom Kautz

The 2013 Benedictine College football team was one of seven teams to receive an at large berth to the NAIA football championship series. The announcement of the tournament was made by the NAIA on Sunday afternoon.

Benedictine College finished the regular season as HAAC co-champs with a 10-1 record overall. The Ravens who are ranked 8th in the latest NAIA top 25 poll will host the 11th ranked Bluejays on Saturday Nov. 23, at Larry Wilcox Stadium in Atchison, Kan. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

The Bluejays finished the regular season in a three way tie for second place in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with a conference record of 7-2, and a 9-2 record overall.

Tabor is no stranger to the Heart of America Athletic Conference as the Bluejays defeated fellow HAAC opponent MidAmerica Nazarene University by the score of 21-13, back in September. The Ravens also got a taste of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference this season as they defeated Friends University by the score of 28-15. Both games were part of the KCAC vs. HAAC challenge.

The Ravens will be making their second FCS appearance in the last three years.

The Bluejays and the Ravens have faced each other four times with the final meeting coming back in 1977. Benedictine College leads the current series with a perfect 4-0 record.

The Bluejays will look to end that streak thanks in part to the nation's top rushing attack which finished the 2013 regular season with 3,694 yards on the ground. The Bluejays defense will also have its hands full trying to slow down the seventh ranked scoring offense in the country. The Ravens have totaled 448 points and are averaging 40. 7 points per game this season.

Running backs will be the story of the game as both teams feature one of the best in the NAIA Bluejays running back James Monroe Jr. ranks 6th in the country in yards per game at 142.1, while Cameron Fore of the Ravens ranks 13th in the country at 122 yards per game. Fore is also the NAIA leader in in total points this season with 152, while Monroe ranks 14th with 90 points.

Pregame for the KAIR 93.7 FM broadcast will begin at 12:30 with the kickoff set for 1:00.
