It's been a bookmark year for the Highland Scotties football team under Head Coach, Ryan Held in just his second season at the helm he has the Scotties at 5-3 with one game remaining in the regular season. With their 20-17 last week over Garden City, earning their first ever playoff appearance in the KJCCC playoffs and garnering national attention has they are receiving votes in the latest national poll.

The Scotties have found success multiple ways this season and a key part of that has been the play of freshman quarterback, Brandon Bergeron who broke the single season passing record for Highland two games ago in a 21-14 win over Coffeyville and has totaled 2,382 passing yards thus far this season with one more regular season game to go and then the playoffs. The previous passing record was established back in 2006 by Billy Bob Orsagh who tossed the ball for 2,100 yards in that season. Bergeron is also within grasp of capturing the single season touchdown passes record of 20 set back in 2000 by Jeff Abbott; Brandon has 17 touchdown passes on the season. The freshman on the season is 224-328 for a 68% completion percentage and has only thrown nine interceptions to his 17 touchdowns.

Highland on the season has used their passing attack to lead the charge on offense with Bergeron as the team averages 302.4 yards per game passing and 110.3 yards per game on the ground. But the balance has been there at both the runningback and wide receiver position as they've spread the wealth at those positions. Six guys have ran the ball for 100+ yards on the season and six guys have also amassed over 100+yards receiving with two of those guys over 400 yards.

Offensively Highland is posting 27.6 points per game, while giving up 26.8 points per game but they are making the plays on both sides of the ball to win and be in contests throughout the year as they tout a plus three turnover margin on the year.

Scotties put these back on the map earlier this year when Coach Held and company went to El Dorado and took down the fourth ranked Butler Grizzles, 23-21; one year after losing to Butler 61-0 and two years removed from a 89-0 loss to Butler. Scotties have also notched wins against Garden City, Coffeyville, Fort Scott and Midland University JV. While their three losses came at the hands of a ranked Northeastern Oklahoma squad and Dodge City and Hutchinson both who are also ranked. Scotties while losing to Dodge City and Hutchinson by double figures were in those contest late in the game.

Highland heads into the bye week riding a two-game winning streak and while hit the field for the final time in the regular season on Saturday October 26th at home against Independence (0-6, 1-7) as they look to continue their momentum towards postseason play.
