Two weeks away from Sub-State volleyball action teams continued to look to fine tune their teams in tournament action as the Riverside Cyclones hosted a tournament on Saturday (October 12th) with a pair of area teams in Troy and McLouth competing in the tournament along with Missouri schools.

For the host school, Riverside the volleyball season has seen its share of up's and downs and their home tournament they nearly doubled their win total this season taking home second place. Cyclones whirled through pool play beating McLouth (25-15, 25-8) in straight sets and picking up three set wins over Bishop Seabury (25-20, 17-25, 25-19) and North Platte (25-17, 13-25, 25-20) to move on to the Semifinals. In the Semi's the Cyclones faced off against a familiar foe in the Troy Trojans, who too made it out of poo play. It was a whirlwind back and forth match between the Cyclones and Trojans ultimately going in favor of Riverside in three sets 24-26, 26-24 and 25-11. That setup Riverside one win away from winning their home Invitational but an tough Mound City team loomed ahead in the championship and proved to be too much for the Cyclones as they fell in straight sets 25-17 and 25-16 to take home second place.

For the Troy Trojans after losing to Riverside in the Semifinals they look to close out the day with a win and that they did dispatching Bishop Seabury in the third place game in straight sets to capture third place (25-16, 25-9). The Trojans finished the day 3-2 in competition, going 2-1 in pool play with loss to Mound City (25-15, 25-22) and wins over South Holt (25-23, 25-13), St. Joseph Christian (25-23, 25-19) and Trenton (25-13, 25-17).

The lone other area Kansas team was the McLouth Bulldogs competing in action on the day and they struggled on the day going 1-3 in pool play with their lone win over St. Joseph Christian in straight sets 25-13 and 25-15. The Bulldogs losses came at the hands of Riverside, North Platte (25-17, 25-21) and Bishop Seabury (25-17, 25-21).

Teams now turn their attention back to regular season league action on the horizon as the end of the regular season is on the horizon.
