Jeff County North Volleyball Does Best of Four Area Teams Taking Second at Wamego Invite

On an action packed Saturday with area teams in action in many tournaments across the state of Kansas, four area teams traveled to Wamego to hit the court for volleyball action in the Wamego Invite.

The Jefferson County North Chargers, Nemaha Valley Raiders, Jeff West Tigers and Valley Heights Mustangs all squared off with Wamego, Riley County, Rock Creek and St. Mary's who rounded out the tournament teams at the Wamego Invite.

It was the Chargers of JCN highlighting the day for the area teams taking home a second place performance at the Wamego Invite finishing with a 5-1 record on the day. Chargers cruised through pool play action with straight set wins over Rock Creek (25-22, 25-9), Jeff West (25-10, 25-20) and Valley Heights (25-21, 27-25). Chargers then hit the floor in the bracket play in the quarterfinals playing the last place team out of the other pool in St. Mary's and the Chargers won in straight sets again, 25-12 and 25-15. With the win over St. Mary's the Chargers took on Riley County in the semifinals were they continued to win in straight sets beating Riley County 25-19 and 25-20. JCN closed out the Wamego Invite facing off against the host in Wamego and suffered their first loss of the tournament falling in straight sets, 25-16 and 25-14, giving the Chargers a second place finish on the day.

The Jeff West Tigers took home the second best performance on the day as they finished the day 3-3 to take home fifth place. The Tigers only managed one win in pool play taking the match against Valley Heights in three sets (18-25, 25-21, 25-19), but fell to Rock Creek in three sets (24-26, 25-13, 25-15) and JCN in straight sets. Tigers took on Riley County in the quarterfinals and pushed the Falcons to three sets but came up short, falling to Riley County 22-25, 30-28, 25-23. The day then turnaround for the Tigers as they finished the day winning their final two matches beating St. Mary's in the consolation semifinals (25-16, 22-25, 25-16) and then took down Nemaha Valley in the fifth place match, 26-24 and 25-13 to finish fifth at the Wamego Invite.

Raiders of Nemaha Valley fell to Jeff West in the fifth place match taking sixth at the tournament going 2-4 on the day. Raiders took down St. Mary's in pool play for a win, taking the win in straight sets (25-17, 25-15), while falling to Wamego (25-12, 25-19) and Riley County (25-15, 28-26) both in straight sets. Raiders lost in the quarterfinals to Rock Creek in three sets (25-14, 19-25, 25-21), but registered their second win of the day by taking down Valley Heights in straight sets in the consolation semifinals (25-23, 25-22).

Mustangs of Valley Heights finished the day going 0-5, falling in straight sets in four of the five contests, but pushed Jeff West to three sets in pool play. While the Mustangs did loss make it a tight matchup with Nemaha Valley in their final match of the day in the consolation semifinals.

With more tournament action in the books for the four area teams competing in at the Wamego Invite they now turn their attention back to league action coming up on Tuesday.
