As the fall sports season is in full force the classifications athletics across the state of Kansas have been released the Kansas State High School Activities Association for the 2013-14 school year and also for the sport of football for 2014-16.

For area teams there are five area classification changes with the area Class 4A teams being affected by the 4A split into divisions.

The 2013-14 school year will see movement for the Oskaloosa Bears and Doniphan West Mustangs from the listening area as the Bears will move up to Class 3A from 2A and Doniphan West will move down to Class 1A from 2A.

When it comes to the football classifications for the next two years (2014-16) four area teams will be competing on a different level starting next year. Four area 2-1A teams in Centralia-Wetmore, McLouth, Oskaloosa and Washington County are on the move to Class 3A. While in the 8-Man ranks Hanover is on the move up to 8-Man Division I, up from the Division II level, while, Linn is moving down to 8-Man Division I, coming down from the Division I level.

Class 4A is perhaps the biggest change of anything for the state classification system as it's now split into divisions like 1A/8-Man football. Starting next year the 4A split takes affect for football and of the six area 4A teams all but one will be in the Division II level. The Atchison Redman will be in the 4A Division I level as the slowest enrollment school in that division. While, Holton, Royal Valley, Jeff West, Santa Fe Trail and Perry Lecompton while all be in the Division II level of Class 4A.
