Three weeks into the high school football season and in the latest set of rankings across the state it's the same four area teams remaining at the top of their respective classifications. While, no new local team has worked themselves into the rankings quite yet, many have started to grab the attention of voters in the polls across the state as nine are being consider in at least one poll.

In Class 4A, it’s the Holton Wildcats continuing to win to remain atop all the standings after improving to 3-0 on the season posting a 63-6 win at home this past week against Sabetha, using their potent rushing attack to run away with the game registering over 500 rushing yards. One other area team in Class 4A is starting to garner attention and that would be the Jeff West Tigers who have started the season off 3-0 and won a thriller again Nemaha Valley this past week, 21-20.

Class 3A rankings continue to not house an area team, but a trio of squads have been getting attention this season as possible teams to watch to move into the rankings. Those three teams all hail from the Big Seven in Hiawatha, Nemaha Valley and Riverside. The Red Hawks are off to a 2-1 start this season after a 38-8 rout of Royal Valley this past week, while Nemaha Valley  is also 2-1 after falling to Jeff West last week. Riverside who makes the move to the Big Seven league this year (in football not officially in league till next year) have started off the season 3-0, beating all their opponents by at least 20 points, including a 40-14 win over Maur Hill-Mount Academy last week.

In Class 2-1A its the Centralia-Wetmore Panthers continuing to dominate their opponents and thus remain number one all the polls across the state. The Panthers are off to another 3-0 start to a season and have been led by their defense that has yet to allow a point this season and yet to allow over 100 yards of total offense to an opponent. Centralia-Wetmore is one of only two teams in the state yet to surrender points, the other the number one team in Class 3A in Silver Lake. A pair of other teams in Class 2-1A from the area are gaining attention as Jackson Heights and Troy, both in Centralia's district are in the other category of a few polls. The Cobras are off to a 3-0 start after routing Valley Falls 36-14 this past week, while Troy moved to 2-1 on the season this last week with a 36-6 loss to Horton.

In the 8-Man ranks its the usual suspects in the rankings as both B&B and Hanover continue to be ranked in the 8-Man Division II level. For the Falcons they've been number one in some polls and ranked a little lower in others in other polls. B&B checks in at number one in the Kansasprepfootball.com and Kpreps rankings this week, while being ranked second by the Topeka Capital Journal and third by VarsityKansas. The Falcons have won their last two games in dominating fashion after a one-point loss in the season opener to Madison, most recently dispatching Pretty Prairie 50-0.

Hanover, finds themselves ranked number one in a pair of polls and third in the other two. Wildcats are off to a 3-0 start after a 50-0 win over Lincoln are ranked number one by the Topeka Capital Journal and VarsityKansas, but third by Kpreps and Kansasprepfootball.com.

Another TVL team in Axtell who is off to a 2-1 start this year, coming off a loss to the number 8-man Nebraska team in Falls City Sacred Heart, is receiving votes in three of the four polls. While, Blue Valley-Randolph who is off to a 3-0 start for the first time since 2004, is also receiving votes in one poll.

8-Man Division I does, also have a TVL team getting some looks as the Clifton-Clyde Eagles are receiving votes.

Through three weeks of action the four teams from the area that started the season ranked have remained ranked and almost unchanged in their spots, but many others are starting to gain attention just three weeks into the season.
