Four Area Teams Have Solid Performances at Hiawatha Tennis Quad

Four area girl’s tennis squads: Hiawatha, Sabetha, Marysville and Perry Lecompton squared off against each other on Monday (September 23rd) in Hiawatha with all four having some solid performances by their competitors in the competition.

For the lady Bluejays of the Sabetha their day was highlighted by a strong outing in doubles number two competition by the tandem of Jena Winkler and Lilly Brownlee finished the day a perfect 3-0 in competition, being challenged by Marysville who took them to a tiebreaker in that match (6-6, 7-2 tie breaker). While beating Perry Lecompton 7-1 and Hiawatha 7-0.

In singles competition both Alexa Menold and Nicole Brey finished off the day with 2-1 records. Menold earned a 7-1 win over Perry Lecompton and 7-2 win over Hiawatha, while falling in a tie breaker to Marysville (6-6, 7-5 tie breaker).

In the another doubles competition number one the Sabetha tandem of Jordyn Wells and Courtney Plattner capped off their day 1-2 but easily could have been 2-1 losing a tough match against Perry Lecompton that went to a tie breaker. Their win came against Hiawatha, 7-3 in that contest.

For the Red Hawks of Hiawatha their day was highlighted in singles competition as Jamie Clary continued her solid season, going 2-1 on the day with wins over Marysville and Perry Lecompton. Clary registered a 7-0 win against Perry and won a tough battle with Marysville 7-5.

The Bulldogs of Marysville had their fair share of top performances at the Hiawatha quad competition. Bulldogs top performance on the day was grabbed by the doubles tandem of Hillary Ronnebaum and Jenae Harmer who went 3-0 in the doubles competition number one. Ronnebaum and Harmer won their matches 7-1 over Sabetha, 7-3 over Perry Lecompton and 7-2 over Hiawatha. In all their other competitions the Bulldog competitions all registered 2-1 marks on the day.

In doubles number two it was Cheyenne Seematter and Allison Ronnebaum notching wins over Perry (7-1) and Hiawatha (7-0) for their wins, while Kassie Breshears and Madison Williams competed in singles competition. Breshears took home a pair of wins over Sabetha (6-6, 7-5 tie breaker) and Perry (7-1). Williams notched wins over Hiawatha (7-0) and Perry Lecompton (7-3).

Perry Lecompton saw their day highlighted by the doubles team of Dani Winchester and Caitlyn Robb who went 2-1 in doubles number one competition winning a tight match against Sabetha and beating Hiawatha (7-3).

All four teams look towards the next few weeks to continue to build success and momentum as they move towards regionals coming up in October.
