Looking to turn a program around Coach Ryan Held took over as the head coach of the Highland CC Scotties football program last year and went 2-7, the Scotties have already surpassed that win total as they are 3-2 the season and shock the Junior college football season by going on the road on Saturday (September 21st) and beating the #4 Butler CC Grizzlies 23-21.

It was an electric game that saw plenty of opportunities for both teams to dictate the action, as Highland lead most of the game until late when Butler made the comeback after a few Scotties turnovers to take a 21-17 lead, but the Scotties got the ball back on a Grizzlies fumble and marched down the field to cap of the game with an five-yard TD pass from quarterback, Brandon Bergeron to Desmond McGee with eight seconds left to win the game, 23-21. Scotties drive was aided but a penalty call on Butler in the redzone.

Scotties got things started in the game striking first in the game with a three-yard, Marlon Mitchell TD run in the first period to lead 7-0. Highland continued to have all the momentum in the game adding a 31-yard Josh Pasley field goal and a Brandon Peters two-yard TD run, to make it 17-0 at the half.

But the second half it was the Grizzlies that settled down and scored the next three TD's of the contest cutting the lead down to 17-14 going into the fourth quarter by scoring a pair of rushing TD's. Then Butler took the lead with under nine minutes left in the game off their third rushing TD of the game, making it 21-17.

Scotties stifled by a few turnovers in second half gave Butler opportunities, but forced Butler into their fifth turnover of the game late in the fourth quarter their second fumble (Grizzlies had 3 INTs), then managed to get the game winning score to take the game.

Highland quarterback, Bergeron was 44-57 for 254 yards, a TD and three interceptions; as eight different Scotties caught passes in the game, five of which had six catches or more each. Mitchell and Peters tallied rushing TDs for the Scotties but Highland only ran the ball for 38 total yards.

With the win the Highland Scotties avenge a 61-0 thrashing from Butler last year and get the best of the #4 team in the country to improve to 3-2 on the season, giving Highland two straight wins on the season. Scotties are 2-1 now in KJCCC conference play. Butler suffered their first loss of the year and fall to 4-1 on the season.
