Mound City Girls and Rock Port Boys Win District Track Meets

  The Mound City Panther girls and Rock Port boys were crowned district champions when they finally got the Class I District 8 meet completed on Tuesday. 

The Lady Panthers scored 136 points to win the title.  Worth County was second with 100, Rock Port was 4th with 65, Nodaway-Holt was 7t with 42, Tarkio placed 9th with 27.5, and Craig-Fairfax scored 17.5 points, good for 13th.

On the boys side Rock Port scored 127 points for the top spot, Mound City was second with 103.  Tarkio was 6th with 56 points, Nodaway-Holt was 8th, Craig-Fairfax placed 11th. 

The Mound City girls were led by freshman Emily Wedlock who won four gold medals winning both hurdle races and the long jump and running a leg of the Panthers victorious 4 x 400 relay team.

Senior Haylee Clifton also won four golds.  Clifton ran in all four relay races and the Panthers claimed the top spot in each race.

Clifton, Alex Phillips, Mae Sanders and Wedlock won the 4 x 400 relay.  Clifton, Jessica Johnson, Sanders and Kendey Eaton won the 4 x 800 relay.

Grace Newcomb, Carina Metzger, Clifton and Phillips teamed up to win the 4 x 200 relay and Newcomb, Lily Grant, Metzger and Clifton won the 4 x 100 relay. 

Freshman Kendey Eaton added gold medals in the 1600 and 3200 for Mound City.  Mae Sanders won the 800.

Other event winners for the girls included Megan Rosehbohm of Nodaway-Holt in the triple jump, 200 and 400 meters.

For the boys it was Rock Port’s Eric Duncan dominating the district meet winning all four events he participated in.  Duncan won the triple jump, long jump, high jump and 100 meters.  

Gage Lemmon won the 800 and 1600 for the Blue Jays  John Lang of Tarkio won the 3200.

Mound City won the 4 x 400 relay with Spencer Staples, DaltonDreher, Brett Johnson and Dayne Messer teaming up for the win.  Brett Johnson struck gold in the pole vault for the Panthers.

The Mound City 4 x 800 relay team of Staples, Messer, Brett Johnson and Hayden Marrs also won gold.  

The top four finishers in each event have qualified for the Sectional Meet to be held Saturday in Holden Missouri.
