Sacred Heart Girls and Boys win District Track Titles

The Falls City Sacred Heart girls’ and boys’ track teams won the Class D, District 1 track meets Wednesday in Auburn.
Girls team scores have Sacred Heart with 116 points, Diller-Odell second with 96, Sterling 3rd with 95 points, and Pawnee City 4th with 81 points.  Mead, Johnson-Brock, Lewiston, Parkview Christian, and Cornerstone Christian rounded out the team standings.
The Sacred Heart boys racked up 156 points for first place.  Sterling totaled 120 points for second place and Pawnee City was third with 71 points.  Then it was Parkview Christian, Diller-Odell, Lewiston, Cornerstone Christian, Johnson-Brock, and Mead rounding out the team standings.
Lots of individual state qualifiers from the area. 
On the girls’ side, Abby and Elizabeth Magdanz of Sacred Heart qualified in the pole vault; Brandie Westhart of Johnson-Brock won the high jump; Maggie Goltz of Sacred Heart qualified for state with a first place finish in the triple jump and a second place finish in the long jump.
Jordan Lempka of Sterling won both the shot put and discus, with Emily Rohrer of Sacred Heart second in the shot put and Jenna Habegger of Pawnee City second in the discus. 
Pawnee City sophomore Shelby Hundley qualified for state in four events.  She won the 100 and 300-meter hurdles and was second in both the 100 and 200-meter dash. 
Kelsi Fouraker of Sacred Heart won the 800-meter run; Sterling junior Tara Hestermann won the 1600-meter run; Rachel Parrish of Sacred Heart was second in the 100-meter hurdles; and Wendy Sterkel of Sterling was second in the 3200.  Sterling qualified for state in both the 1600 and 3200-meter relays.

Boys’ individual results, Chaz Dunn of Sacred Heart won both the long jump and 800-meter run; Colten Fisher of Pawnee City was first in the pole vault with Matt Mullins of Sacred Heart second; Austin Smith of Pawnee City won the high jump and qualified for state with a second place finish in the triple jump. Austin Malone of Sacred Heart won the triple jump.
Kody Benson of Sterling was first in the shot put and second in the discus.  Scott Borcher of Pawnee City won the discus and qualified in the shot put.  Chris Wenzl of Sterling also qualified for state in the shot put.
Sacred Heart fared well in the sprints.  Yianni Haralabidis and Clay Finck qualified for state with a 1-2 finish in the 100-meter dash; Finck was also second in the 200-meter dash.  Lane Barnhill won the 400-meter dash, with Henry Arnold second. 
Trey Trauernicht of Sterling was first in the 1600-meter run and was second in the 800.  Rhet Dirks of Sterling was second in the 800, while Alex Menninga of Pawnee City qualified with a second place finish in the 3200-meter run.  Sacred Heart senior Will Burenheide finished second in the 110-meter hurdles.
Sacred Heart won two relays. Clay Finck, Yianni Haralabidis, Chaz Dunn, and Lane Barnhill qualified in the 400-meter relay and Dunn, Barnhill, Sawyer Kean, and Henry Arnold teamed to win the 1600-meter relay.  Sterling won the 3200-meter relay with the team of Trey Trauernicht, Jesse Phillips, Michael Lucas, and Rhet Dirks.
Extra qualifiers in field events, based on district results include Sean Koperski of Johnson-Brock in the high jump, Scott Borcher of Pawnee City in the shot put, and Henry Arnold of Sacred Heart in the triple jump.
