DVL Teams & Atchison Compete at Pleasant Ridge Track Invite Last Week

Last week majority of the Delaware Valley League teams, Atchison and one non-area team in Christ Prep competed against each other in the Pleasant Ridge Invitational.

Many of the area schools came home with first place finishers on the day and great days work overall on the track.

In the boys competition it was the non-area school Christ Prep dominating things winning the team title with 142 points with Atchison and Jefferson County North following in second and third place. The host school Pleasant Ridge and Valley Falls, rounded out the top five, in fourth and fifth in the boys competition.

On the girls side it was the Lady Red of Atchison amassing 118 points to push past Jefferson County North by seven points, to take first, while the Chargers settled for second. Christ Prep, also went over the century mark in points to finish third, while Pleasant Ridge and ACCHS finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Boys competition was for area performers was highlighted by the Valley Falls Dragons tandem of Hunter Hosler and Max Badgett who both won a pair of events. Hosler made it a sweep in the hurdles competition on the day for winning both the 110 meters (17.43) and 300 meters (43.84). While, Badgett did his work on the track and the field, sprinting to the win in the 200 meter dash (24.17) and leaping his way to a win in the long jump (18-03).

Pleasant Ridge and JCN both saw multiple first place finishes for their team on the day with three boys for each squad winning an event. For the Rams it was Tony Weber pacing his way to a win in the 1600 meter run (4:56.00), Nick Holmes leaping to the win in the triple jump (39-04) and their 4x100 meter relay team (45.90) sprinting to a win. The Chargers were lead by a Luke Pyle win in the javelin throw (140-05), Cory Noll win in the 100 meter dash (11.72) and a Dallas Edwards win in the 800 meter run (2:13.00).

Atchison, too saw multiple first place finishes on the day with Dane Anderson tossing his way to wins in the discus (124-08) and shot put (44-08.50).

While the ladies of Atchison highlighted their side of competition winning eight events on their way to a first place finish as a team. The Lady Red were lead by a sweep of the sprinting competiton's as Sierra Smith took home first in the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 13.52 and 26.90 and a sweep in the relay competitions with wins in the 4x100 (52.38), 4x400 (4:26.00) and 4x800 meter (10:36.00) relays. Lady Red didn't stop there as Madison Sanders, Sarah Jaloma and Madeline Shipley each won an event for Atchison, also. Sanders took home the 400 meter run title (1:03.00), Jaloma ran to the win in the 800 meter run (2:34.00) and Shipley vaulted to the win in the pole vault (9-00).

Second place team the lady JCN Chargers took home three first place finishes at the hands of Lauryn Baker, Jamie Navinskey and Heather Polson all coming in field events. Baker, Polson and Navinskey each leapt to a wins in the triple jump (34-01), high jump (5-00) and long jump (14-05), respectively.

Pleasant Ridge was the only other area team in the girls competition to have multiple first place finishers as April Lingenfelser and Oleta Mccaully won the shot put (32-02.50) and javelin (111-05) for the Rams, respectively.

ACCHS and Oskaloosa each took home a first place finish, also on the day. For the Tigers it was Maddison Bissel winning the 1600 meter run (5:55.00), highlighting things for ACCHS. The Bears of Oskaloosa day was highlighted by a win in the discus (108-09) by Nicole Kruse.

Area teams now turn their attention to league meets this week coming up on Thursday at ACCHS for the Delaware Valley League and hosted at KC Wyandotte for the KCA League for Atchison.
