Doane junior Nick Reed has been selected as the 2013 NAIA Emil S. Liston Award recipient for men’s basketball. Each NAIA conference is able to nominate one student-athlete for this annual award, one in men’s basketball and the other in women’s basketball.  Samantha Kleinsasser of Northwestern College gives the GPAC a sweep of this year’s award.

The Emil S. Liston Award is named in honor of the NAIA's first executive secretary and the prime mover behind the men's basketball tournament.  This award has been presented annually since 1950 to one junior men's and women's basketball player who has shown high athletic and scholastic achievement.

Nick is an exercise science major with biology minor. The junior is a NAIA Scholar-Athlete and he was on the Dean's List last year. He was named a Capital One Academic All-American in 2013 (Second Team) and 2012 (Third Team).

Reed earned NAIA honorable mention All-American honors in 2013 and is a three-time First Team All-GPAC selection. He was GPAC Freshman-of-the-Year in 2011 and is a four-time GPAC Player-of-the-Week honoree.

During the 2012-13 season, Reed led the team in scoring with 16.6 points per game and was second in rebounds with 5.7 per game.  He was also second on the team in assists with 82 and steals with 46.  The Tigers tied a single-season school record with 21 wins this year.
