Despite getting up 14-5 after just the first quarter Valley Heights opened the season with a tough loss to Riley County. Riley County answered in the second quarter with a 17-4 stanza and led 22-18 at halftime and went on to outscored Valley Heights 30-12 in the second half for the win. Kayla Smith led Valley Heights in the loss with 11 points.
