Nebraska Girls State Tournament field set

(KLZA)-- Three Pioneer Conference teams have advanced to the Nebraska Girls State Tournament which begins in Lincoln on Tuesday, March 2.

Falls City Sacred Heart ( 24-2) will be the #2 seed in Class D2 and will take on #7 seed Maywood – Hayes Center Wednesday afternoon at 4 at Lincoln North Star High School.  

The Irish defeated Lawrence-Nelson in the  District Final Friday night at Odell 58-31. 

Sacred Heart will be playing in the State Tournament for the 10th consecutive season.

The Sterling Jets beat Wauneta-Palisade Friday night 78-61.  The Jets (15-7)  will be the #8 seed and will face top seed Humphrey St. Francis ( 22-0) in the opener Wednesday morning at 11.

The Irish and the Jets will play the opening round at Lincoln North Star High School. Sterling will play at 11 a.m. and the Irish at 4 p.m.  You can hear both teams State Tournament action live on SUNNY 101.3 and on the web at MSCSports.net. 

If the Jets win Wednesday, they advance to the semi-finals Thursday 9 a.m.  An Irish win would put Sacred Heart in a semi-final game Thursday morning at 11:15.  All the semi-finals will be played at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln. 

A D2 Championship game would be played Saturday at 3:45 p.m. and a third place game would be at 9 a.m. Friday morning at Lincoln Northeast High School.

In Class C-1 District action on SUNNY 101.3 Friday night Auburn lost to Sidney,  43-24.  
In D2,  Diller-Odell lost to Maywood-Hayes Center 47-39.  

Other area teams advance to the Girls State Tournament include Syracuse in Class C1, the Rockets (21-3) are the #6 seed in C1 and will play Hastings St. Cecelia Wednesday evening at 8:30 at Pinnacle Bank  Arena. 

In Class C-2  Lourdes  Central Catholic (20-4) of Nebraska City will be the #5 seed and will take on #4 seed Bridgeport (23-2) at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon.

The Knights are the third team from the Pioneer Conference to qualify for the State Tournament.
