Six Area Teams Highlight Jan. 21 KBCA Rankings

It’s mid-season tournament week across the state of Kansas and with that the newest set of Kansas Basketball Coaches Association rankings have been released featuring six area teams.

The Class 3A rankings feature two area teams on the girl’s side with Nemaha Central ranked No. 1 in the state while Sabetha is ranked sixth. The Thunder are off to an 8-0 start after a big win last week over the Lady Jays who are 7-1.

In Class 2A two more area teams are ranked and both on the girl’s side as Jeff County North is ranked sixth while Valley Heights is eighth. The Chargers are a perfect 8-0 on the season after a pair of 30-plus point wins in the last week while the Mustangs are 9-1 and into the semifinals of the Twin Valley League tournament after a 48-30 win over Doniphan West Monday.

The final two ranked teams come in Class 1A with the Hanover girls ranked third while the Valley Falls boys moved up one spot this week to No. 9.

The Lady Cats suffered their first loss of the season Monday in the quarterfinals of the TVL Tournament falling to Frankfort, while the Dragon boys are 8-1 after wins over Jackson Heights and ACCHS last week.
