In a rare Thursday night Big 7 League doubleheader the Nemaha Central Thunder basketball teams each picked up victories over the visitors from Holton.

GIRLS

Behind a 12-0 run to end the first quarter the Nemaha Central girls got off to a double-digit lead and never looked back taking down Holton at home 46-30.

The Thunder offense struggled early on as the game was tied at four midway through the first quarter, but Nemaha Central ended the opening frame on a 12-0 run behind 12 points from junior Alleigh Kramer to take a 16-4 into the second.

Holton was much better offensively in the second quarter as sophomore Saydee Tanking record eight points in the frame, but Nemaha Central was able to outscored the Lady Cats 15-10 to take a 31-14 lead into the half.

Both teams struggled offensively in the third, but the Thunder were able to extend their lead to 17 point going into the fourth and put the game away from the free throw line going 6-of-8 in the fourth quarter.

Nemaha Central (16-2, 11-1 Big 7) wrapped up at least a share of the Big 7 League crown with the win and will have a chance to win the league outright hosting Riverside Monday and traveling to Sabetha on Tuesday.

BOYS

In an offensive struggle the Nemaha Central boys won every quarter including a 9-5 second quarter to win their eight game in their last nine taking down Holton Thursday night 44-32.

The Thunder got out to a 10-8 lead after one quarter and extended their lead to 19-13 at the half behind 12 combined first half points from seniors Cole Kramer and Matt Baumgartner.

Nemaha Central extended their lead to nine going into the fourth quarter, and put the game away with 6-of-8 free throw shooting in the fourth with Kramer going 5-of-6 from the stripe.

Kramer finished with a game-high 17 points in the win for the Thunder (13-5, 6-5 Big 7), who will host Riverside Monday before traveling to Sabetha on Tuesday.

Holton (2-16, 2-11) delivered another solid performance after a win over Hiawatha on Tuesday, and will wrap up the regular season next week traveling to Eudora on Monday and hosting Jeff West on Tuesday.
