Nine Area Teams Highlight Week One KBCA High School Basketball Rankings

KBCA Week One - Rankings

The high school basketball season got underway last week and with that the newest set of rankings have been released by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association.

Class 3A continues to house two teams on both the girl’s and boy’s sides, with Royal Valley and Nemaha Central claiming the top two spots for the girls, respectively. The Panthers opened up the year Friday night with a 68-47 thumping of Perry Lecompton, while the Thunder dominated Centralia 57-35.

On the boy’s side of the 3A rankings it continues to be Sabetha at No. 4 and Maur Hill-Mount Academy at No. 10, as the Bluejays opened the year with a 77-50 win over Marysville while the Ravens blew out Pleasant Ridge 61-21.

The Class 2A rankings have just one area team ranked this week and it comes on the girl’s side, as Jackson Heights moved into the rankings checking in at No. 10. The Cobras opened up the year with an exciting 51-49 win over Jeff County North to begin the year, as Kylie Dohl delivered the game-winning layup with three seconds left.

The final ranked area teams come in Class 1A, as the girl’s rankings house three teams with Frankfort at No. 5, Centralia No. 8 and Axtell rounding out the rankings at No. 10. Frankfort blew out Pawnee City Friday night 56-16 to begin the year Friday night, while Centralia fell to Nemaha Central and Axtell to Wabaunsee.

Centralia rounds out the rankings for this week, as the Panthers check in at No. 6. Centralia opened the year with a 57-35 loss to Nemaha Central on the road, but played without all-league big man Daegan Steinlage.
