With just one week remaining until zone tournament play gets underway next weekend the legion baseball season continued last night with a Northeast Kansas League doubleheader and a non-league contest.

Doniphan County picked up a dominating NEKL East Division sweep of Oskaloosa winning game one 18-2 and finished off the sweep with a 4-2 victory.

Sabetha also fell in a single non-league game Thursday dropping a contest on the road at Falls City by a final of 4-0.

Doniphan County Sweeps Oskaloosa

Doniphan County continued to solidify its spot at the top of the East Division of the Northeast Kansas League with 18-2 and 4-2 wins over Oskaloosa.

DC wasted no time jumping out in front of the River Bandits in game one plating four runs in the first inning and seven in the second to jump out to a 13-0 lead after two innings of play.

Doniphan County tacked on a run in the top of the third inning before Oskaloosa finally got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the third, but it was already too late as DC scored six more runs in the fourth inning to finish off the run-rule victory.

Levi Watts had a big night at the plate in game one collecting four hits, two home runs and 8 RBI’s, while also being the game’s winning pitcher.

Just like game one Doniphan County wasted no time jumping out in front of game two scoring three runs in the first inning. That 3-0 score held all the way until the top of the fourth when DC tacked on one more run, before Oskaloosa finally got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

That 4-2 score held the rest of the way as Zeb Speer threw well on the mound tossing all five innings allowing just the two runs while striking out seven.

The pair of wins pushed Doniphan County’s record to 17-8 overall and 11-1 in NEKL play, while the two losses dropped Oskaloosa to 11-14 overall and 8-8 in the NEKL.

Sabetha Drops Non-League Game to Falls City

Noah Milam spun a 1-hitter leading FC to a 4-0 shutout victory over Sabetha.

Milam fanned 10 hitters in his complete game victory as FC used a 3-run second inning to take an early lead and added a 2-out run in the 6th when a Raptor outfielder lost his footing on a fly ball.

FC plated their first three runs on a three hits and a pair of Sabetha errors.

Even though Mason Spellmeier took the loss, he was solid in his 5.2 innings allowing only a pair of unearned runs.

Sabetha now sits at 21-10 on the year with the loss and a hold onto a league record of 8-6.
