Sabetha & Nemaha Central Win 3A Regional & Take Second to Lead Area Golfers Qualifying for State

3A Boys Golf Regional (at Maur Hill-Mount Academy) - Team & Individual

Northeast Kansas area will be well represented at the State Tournament in boys golf next week after strong performances at the Class 3A Maur Hill-Mount Academy Regional on Tuesday in Atchison. 

Sabetha Bluejays led the way for the area performances by claiming their third straight Regional title winning this year's Regional title by 45-strokes posting a team score of 318. Four of the top five individual rounds led the way for the Bluejays with a 73 from Garrett Scott leading the charge as he claimed the Regional title. Jesse Burger shot a 78 to place second, while David Pierson took fourth place with a 80 and an 87 by Tanner Ukele earned him fifth place. Riley Lierz earned seventh place behind a 88 and Carson Ukele placed 12th (95). 

Regional runner-up as a team belonged to Nemaha Central as the Thunder posted a team score of 363 to qualify for State as a team. A third place individual finish by Eric Hammes led Nemaha Central has he carded a 79 which was good for one of only three rounds under 80. Hunter Feldkamp and Cassidy Corby finished 10th and 11th place with rounds of 93 and 94, while Dalton Schmelzle finished 13th shooting a 97. Billy Mitchell and Gregory Sperfslage notched 17th and 18th place finishes. 

Maur Hill-Mount Academy took third as a team just missing out on qualify for State as a team but a pair of Raven golfers did qualify for State individually. Isaac Henderson and Riley Funk notched sixth and eighth place finishes at Regionals with rounds of 87 and 92 to each earn a spot at State. 

Hiawatha, Horton and Royal Valley all are also sending a golfer to the Class 3A State tournament after qualifying at Regionals. For Hiawatha Caden Lillie placed ninth with a 93 to earn a spot at State, while Cole Bottom of Horton and Corey Humpert each shot a 98 to tie for 14th and each qualify for State. 

The Class 3A State golf tournament is set for Monday, May 5th in Seneca at Spring Creek golf course.
